I already 'got it', but it seems fairly obvious (by your selective
snipping) that you do not... *sigh*

It isn't sensible to change laws and rights before a demonstrated strong
threat to Australia as a whole exists (not a possible threat to a small
    number of people).

You know John... all of that is probably good grounds for a large
expansion of our Uranium mines and the US (and NATO countries) nuclear
    power programs.

If we were a more significant energy (Uranium) producer then we'd be in
the position that Kuwait were, and they'd actually have a reason to help
    us... [1]

[1] Waits for people to run screaming from the Nuclear power plants
idea... (even though they are greenhouse friendlier :)

Heheh, it scares me we thinks so much alike - this is a concept I've
been propounding for some time - I'm strongly pro nuke, the problem is
the current govt (and prob Labour as well) are quite in thrall to the
    coal industry.

If we got serious about rolling out nukes and serious about mining
Uranium, then we'd (as you point out) have strategic value worth the US
protecting us for, and secondly we'd have the capacity to build our own
nuclear weapons (and then China would be a lot more hesitant).

Of course that would be proactive and looking after the country as a
whole rather than vested interests like Murdoch, Packer, Rio Tinto etc,
a bit too much of that vision thing

    Know any Doug?

Would you like me to ask one of our employees, Nader? His wife wears the
veil and was punched in a shopping centre two weeks ago.

I hold Johnny Howard personally responsible for that.

My young mind was a bit confused when the light went out, but then some-one
explained about the earth's shadow. Apparently it's really big and dark
behind the earth. A bit like night-time.

I like the idea of more nuclear power plants. Coal is killing too many
    people and destroying our atmosphere.

Lakemba's 2 suburbs up, plenty of local muslims around too. They feel
OK here, but the checkout chick I was chatting to yesterday was badly
hassled on the train back from Uni the other day. She felt unsafe
    outside the local area.

    Moderate Muslims welcome arrests

THE CLOUD of suspicion that hung over all Muslims and Arabs in Australia
would be lifted by the arrests yesterday in Sydney and Melbourne, a
    leading Muslim group said.

Australian Arabic Council secretary Martin Hosking described the arrests
as a "step forward, in the sense that matters which have been bubbling
along in the media are now firmly in the hands of the courts".

"We, like all Australians, welcome these arrests if they can improve our
security and we support the actions of the authorities in this regard,"
    Mr Hosking said.

"In some quarters there has been a cloud of suspicion hung over all Arab
Australians and Muslims (and) to the extent the arrests will help to
dissipate this cloud, they are to be particularly welcomed."
Couldn't've been John Howard. He was in Townsville two weeks ago.
