I keep a 20 litre drum of diesel at work. No, no, it's for the genset.
    Really.

    Theo
Got 20 litres at home too. That must be for the tractor. No, I don't have a
    BMW.

A fair question. Sadly, there isn't any creditable alternative to vote

The elected reps only seem to have time to list to the Kerrys, Rupert,
and, on a bad day, John Laws.

Any comment from anyone less rich/influential is ignored unless it
agrees with the rep's already stated position.
I certainly wouldn't argue with your numbers....

The general public has a basic inherant right to, as you put it,
"whinge" about polititians for as long as polititians continue to act
like a pack of six year olds with loyalty to the "gang" being far more
    important than truth or logic.

The party system, and the factions within the parties, have made any
recovery to reasonable and sensible government impossible.
(I think you tacitly agree with that, given your comments about favours
    and preselection.)

It would be my prediction, based on as scientific principles as you used
grabbing for numbers, that, in some ten to fifteen years, Oz will
descend into serious civil unrest, and become ungovernable. :-(

Fortunately, I don't care that much about it.

Not forgetting 200 kg of fertiliser, 40 litres of diesel and John Howard's
    address.

OK. We've sold stuff to Prisons and Education. They just paid us the GST and
(presumably) got it back from the Tax Office. I understood that was how the
system is supposed to work. If you're GST excempt it is should not be your
    suppliers problem.
Where we sold goods to mining, agriculture, and everybody else who had a
mate who had a tax excempt number, we had to claim back the WST on each item
we purchased to fill their order, keeping a photocopy of each supplier
invoice on which we claimed. Monthly claim ran to 50 - 100 photocopies and a
day or mores work. Sounds like this is what you're having to do now.
    We don't get those.

As somebody once said 'Life wasn't meant to be easy', then he lost his
    pants.

I guess it's some sort of Karma, but while I was sitting there typing
the above, a letter was sitting in my mailbox summonsing me for Jury
duty*. Christ Karma is a bitch !

Nev, you are indeed right, they have an estimate of how long the case
will go for (although it's odd, it's 4 weeks from the 7th December and I
know the courts close down over Xmas).

So did anyone know the answer about paid vs unpaid leave ?

    JL
*been 3 days since I checked the snail mail, it's only ever bills anyways

Schools do that and prisons do that, but payments direct from some
government departments are different... there isn't any consistency.
    You are lucky!
I have heard the cook at the local say "life wasn't meant to be greasy"
but it doesn't stop me buying junk food...
