No other road user group has to pay any
So, if the $50 surcharge was, instead, packaged as just a $50 hike in
the basic bike rego fee... what then?

It is; it's just $50 more for rego. At least, no separate levy shows
    up on my rego papers.

Maybe. Maybe not. However, it's not "we" that's doing this, it's one
person. How much noise he raises on the day is subject to conjecture, of
    course.

Obviously she wasn't clear enough. Smee has a been in his bonnet over
something. He thinks that I attacked her, or "set the goons onto her" to
use his words, loosely, that is. And I did nothing of the sort. I merely
highlighted to the MRA board that there is this misperception that the
MRA's running the TAC Levy petition, when it is not, and which was
stated in the MRA's last newsletter.

The only thing that it has done was to provide a form for those
interested in distributing it. This was at the request of Codognotto. If
people want to distribute it and promote the petition, that's fine. It's
their choice. Ditto if they think otherwise.

If it was across the board, then yeah, we can't complain.
It does. There will be a small line saying something like "inc. safety
initiative", which by the way is taxed twice, with the insurance duty
and with GST. The actual figure is closer to $68 (well, it was for mine,
    when I calculated it).

The problem that some people have with it is that the money is being
spent on projects that don't necessarily benefit riders exclusively.

Usually, when one group subsidises another, say for example in
telecommunications, where metro customers subsidise remote customers,
it's no big deal. But what about when a minority group is spending more
on rego then another group, say, car owners, and the works being done
benefits them as well as the riders? Is this not fair?

But then, maybe fairness doesn't come into it.

    whatever that is.

its a BPD thing, send him to Spectrum!
Mind, you have never talked to me since I offered to kiss you, so I guess
    all is fair...

    Bike rego - 350
    Car rego - 522

It seems to be the other way around - that car owners are subsiding
    motorcyclists.

I'm not surprised.. she used lots of ambiguous expressions like...

"...the MRA are not organising this event..."

    and

"Nothing to do with the MRA..."

It's easy to see how you missed it :)

Maybe you can recruit the police to bat for the MRAA on this issue..
They get changed over $1350 in 3rd party insurance on their cars, and
they charge almost $1000 for fire trucks but ambulances pay less than
    $400. Discrimination !!!
