Being detained by ASIO for 2 weeks and interrogated (presumably using
sleep deprivation and other interrogation techniques) without being
charged isn't a loss of personal freedom?

I read in todays SMH[1] that the "suspected terrorist" they shot
yesterday ran a spray painting business... I wonder how many other
spray painting businesses have drums of acetone lying around?

That's sad. I'm afraid you just went down a couple of respect points as
far as I am concerned (I'll bet you didn't think there was much to
lose). I don't think I could ever put the machine ahead of what I
    believe.

If calling you a liberal party stooge is name calling you have
    completely lost the plot
I'm telling the truth, you aRE a mouthpiece for the party nothing more
nothing less hence that qualifies you as a stooge.

And when a copper does shoot and kill someone in these circumstances they
are generally never the same emotionally.

So you choose to become a stooge for our benefit.
go on John tell us how you really feel about IR laws rather than hide.
If you don't give a toss then don't sit there defending something that
you don't really care about just because you act like a lapdog to the party.

We have a similar system called "Jury Duty" and look at how many people try
    and duck that responsibility.

It's existence or it's implementation. I think the GST is a good concept
as far as taxes go (which are always hard to be positive about). The
    paperwork however is bloody horrendous

Funnily enough, I did exactly the same thing (as I think I've already
    mentioned).

Lower house I put Liberal last and Labour second last, then the rest
from there. In the senate I always put Fred Nile last, always have, and
numbered every single box from there.

Not surprising... who'd want to be responsible for letting the drivers
of cars involved in fatal motorcycle accident walk free...

Actually I don't think that many people try to duck that responsibility,
its' just the scope of people who can apply for an exemption is
    exceptionally broad.

I am somewhat surprised that you formulate an opinion of a person based on a
    few web posts.

Well put it this way, I was in a one teacher school when Gough got
dismissed, I was in either kindergarten or first class and I can recall
the teacher doing some sort of role play thing(I have no memory of what
the point of the exercise was) - we each got to be a political figure
(all 12 of us). I was Bob Hawke (which at that time meant I didn't
really do much). That's my earliest political memory. I'm really only
particularly aware of the Hawke years onwards as personal memory (as
opposed to modern history) particularly given we only had access to TV
from when I was umm 10 or so.

(my first vote I voted for Hewson IIRC)
