There is nothing to admit other than that I didn't specify clearly
enough what I meant for you to understand it. That (given this is
usenet) is hardly a crime (unlike many more things that are now).

    Makes no difference
Your membership of the liberal party negate you talking about the IR
laws with a clear conscience or mind.

Actually the fact that IR laws will never have any effect upon me has more
relevance than any membership I may have. On the other hand your membership
of the Labor Party Puppet (a Teachers Union) may have a similar effect on
    your point of view.

So, when are the feds dropping by yours for a quiet midnight chat, if
    that's the case?

What do you know to be in a position to "assure" us?
    An apt choice of words...
Yes, the way Jack van Tongeren's incarceration saw a mushrooming of
    white-supremacy groups in WA...
Three guys throwing chairs at television cameramen is a riot now?

You know, every so often, I soften towards you, allow myself to start
thinking that you're not such a bad guy, but then a thread like this
comes along and you remind me why it could be considered a pity you made
    it back from Vietnam unscatched...

....you're a volunteer mouthpiece for a bunch of people who've spent the
last four years keeping the whole country hysterical[1]. How can anyone
put any stock in what you say?

[1]Cruise ship gets attacked by gunmen in 12-foot launches off the coast
of Somalia, and the first murmur about the possibility of their being
not pirated, but terrorists, comes from our fucking foreign minister.

So we wait till after the first bomb goes off, *then* consider taking
    action. Got it...

Only half the country is hysterical. The other half voted for the

Give me a fucking break, Doug...

....the people rounded up today are, at best, home-grown Timothy McVeighs
and Eric Rudolphs; losers who've read the pamphlet, seen the movie and
went "We can do that, too".
The threat's been there for all to see the past thirty years... kinda
like global warming. Why are we only becoming hysterical about one of
    those now?
Another identifying feature of a raving loony is his use of hyperbole...
    Paris intifada; too cute...

Watching the television footage tonight the cameraman was attacked by 5
brave supporters of the arrested group.

They smashed his camera and had a good go at bashing him (although a good
proportion of the media may deserve such treatment).
Never went to Veitnam, dont know where you got that one from.

I think Pirates would be smarter than to attack a Cruise Ship with 2 25 foot
    speed boats and 2 RPG's.

It may not have been terrorists, could have been British Soccer fans at an
    away game.

You are assuming that a 'first' bomb will go off, I haven't seen
evidence to support that that will actually happen in Australia.

I'm not left... I run a fairly steady business employing 15 full time
and about 5 part time staff.

I'm a moderate if you must pigeon hole me...
I didn't vote for either major party in the lower or upper houses and I
voted below the line for the senate in an attempt to minimize the damage
.... seems I was in a minority (but that doesn't make that particular
minority wrong, it's just makes us unpopular).

Except that they have Australian passports and do not wear a uniform.
And their numbers are growing. There have already been calls for sharia
law to be recognised by the courts.
Until the first bomb goes off in Flinders St. Station.

he words of David Hicks, they hope to unite the world under the
I disagree. If they stop even one terrorist attack it will have been
    worthwhile.
We're a long way from the end.

And that's what it's all about, innit, John? I'll be right, **** the
rest of you if you can't look after yourselves the way I have...
Has Smee ever stood for any kind of leadership position within the
    Teachers' Union?

One-nil to him when it comes to objectivity.

Everything else I've been able to read from you both over the past
four-and-a-bit years takes that score to about a million-thirteen.

How many times has Smee criticised "his" supposed side of the public
debate, and how many times have you said anything negative about
    anything your party was doing?

    You're the only shill here...

Actually much more than a volunteer mouthpiece for the Liberal Party, I am a
committed member and have considerable input into policy debate at Local,
State and Federal Levels. I assist in drafting policy on occasions and enjoy
the cut and thrust of informed political debate. I have stood for State
Parliament and achieved more votes that the current Speaker in the
Queensland Parliament. This is all called having an active role in the
political landscape of this country. I do not claim to know all and consider
that a vast number of Australians would do a better job than I would in
political debate, but I stand up and have a go.

I put my money and time where my mouth is.

If you have committed views on how the country should be run, do something
about it, we all know the Labor Party could use a good leader.

I don't believe that for a minute, there's a lot of hungry people in
that area of the world with access to serious armaments, that's why
there's plenty of piracy, a bunch of ex revolutionaries decide that
robbing a rich cruise ship looks like easy pickings, bit more likely
than a terrorist attack (unless the new Liberal party definition of
terrorist is "any non white person who attacks whites" in which sure,
terrorism alright.) When people have a lot to gain and not much to lose
they'll give anything a go - and let's face it they knew it wasn't going
to be heavily armed, they probably were convinced it was going to be a
    snack.

It's interesting my views align pretty accurately (AFAICT on public
statements over the last 10 years*) with a former LIBERAL party prime
minister, yet I'm now "left" as well supposedly. If I'm not mistaken I'm
pretty much in line with 2 of the guys Howard shunted to get the
Opposition Leader's job as well. It's Howard and co. that have headed to
the right of Genghis Khan and abandoned many of the Liberal Party's
former planks dating right back to Menzies. Things like personal
    liberties...

    A whole FIVE attackers!

If that's a riot, I'm now even more perplexed than I previously was at
the absence of water cannon from that occasion when I got jumped by
    30-odd Serbs back in 1992...
So, what's your problem, then? People after your own heart, aren't they?
Oh, well... since all your quips on the subject now turn out to have
nothing to back them up, guess I can let my respect for you drop a
    couple more notches, then.
So terrorists are now people who are dumb enough to have a go at a
cruise ship when they only have a pair of 25-foot speedboats and
RPG's... and it's such people we're "at war" with? It's in response to
such people we have to expand the powers given to our security services?

What does that say about our cops and intelligence agencies?

If they can't get on top of people who'd try to attack a cruise ship
with RPG's without being given extensive new powers of search, seizure
and interrogation, who are they kidding when they get on tv and tell us
all about how safe they'll keep us?
Obfuscate, dilute, divert be glib... does the Party hand out trophies or
badges for that sort of thing?

Got a real gripe or is that it? Citizens suffering under truly
repressive regimes would laugh you off the net...
That's your problem. I feel we have taken the correct course of action.
It's a loaded question as no-one can feel good about going to war, even
though they may feel it was necessary.
    Never been prouder.
I'd rather the police acted while the body was still alive rather than
    post mortem.

I find it interesting (if rather worrying) that M Fraser's views would
now be considered left leaning by most liberal party front benchers :-/
I'm not, and even then there were some things that he supported that I
    did not.

However it is not only the Libs that have moved to the right, the Labor
party isn't as left leaning as it used to be either.

If they were a bit more organised I might even vote for them instead of
a minor party (but that seems unlikely to happen soon).

I'm certainly not going to vote for little Johny (being a business owner
and industry organization representative not withstanding).

His record on human rights is simply too poor... and I prefer to sleep
    at nights.
