You keep tossing up ideas and beliefs, he bats them down with attitude.

You can't really have a very fruitful discussion with someone who isn't
prepared to consider your argument as long as he can twist it enough to
    dismiss it.

Yeah unfortunately, I _really_ have to stop doing this*, or one of your
peers in another institution won't be getting an essay from me to mark

Is it? Can you prove that? Exactly what about them is a threat to us?

Personally I feel a much greater personal threat from the governments
new IR laws and 'terrorist' laws.

    Personal Threat?

Is your boss going to use the new IR laws to sack you Nev?

You making bombs in the back yard?

I was very interested in the IR laws and went along to a widely advertised
(letterbox drops to 30,000 homes in the federal electorate) meeting convened
by Senator Joe Ludwig a few weeks ago at the local soccer club. I was hoping
to sit in the back unnoticed and listen to the debate and get a feel for the
publics opinion. Unfortunately I was one of only 3 people who turned up
(excluding Labor party and Union staffers). It appears from that isolated
incident that the IR changes are not a big issue with the public in my area.

John Joward just loves, and encourages, this brand of paranoia.
Shit! You mean selectively, don't you? Just against the Islamists. We have
an Islamist working for us, we'll be able to fire him just as soon as Johnny
gets his IR laws passed, eh? We really need to have those IR laws Doug, so
we can discriminate without fear of censure.

Since the discussion was about Australian laws passed by the Australian
government I was expecting you to provide some evidence that we
Australians in Australia were facing a threat from islamic terrorists.
If the best evidence you can provide is that it is in fact Indonesia
which is the target of these extremists it seems pretty silly for the
Australian government to be passing legislation which gives police or
security forces the power to shoot Australians with the intention of
    killing them.

Funny you should mention that. I'm pretty sure your little mate JWH
promised that my boss wouldn't be able to use the new IR laws to sack
me... or wasn't that a core promise ?

The chances of being killed or injured in a traffic accident are far
greater than being killed by terrorists. Road fatalities in Australia
are equivalent to 1 Bali bombing every 3 weeks. No point living in fear
    of the lesser threat.

The ones just aressted with bomb making chemicals and a stockpile of guns
may have been somewhat of a threat.

Not to mention an Australian is more likely to die of a heart attack
from obesity than either of those two options. Is JWH going to pass laws
to contain the threat McDonalds presents to Australians ? In fact given
they start the brainwashing at a young age, maybe these anti-terror laws
could be used for the good of a community - lock up Ronald McDonald and
    throw away the key !!

Never said I was worried about it, just that I considered that to be a
greater threat to myself than that which any terrorists would provide.
