the thing is the mra group and melb moto mask email addresses.
He would still have had to obtain details from somewhere.
I dont leave my email addresses anywhere to be seen.

Sounds like bad management on your part, not his. If you're
operating with just one email address, and you're giving that
same email address to everyone you communicate with, you're
setting yourself up for a fall like this one.

If you told the MRA that your email address was "",
then you wouldn't have this problem. If the address gets
public, you delete it, and the problem goes away.

All this whining about "nasty man stole my email address and
now I get spam" is, well, just whining. You expect that from
the nine year old "I can get that for two dollars cheaper up
the road, you crook" snipers in aus.ads.forsale, but you're
    a grown-up, yes?

Fake email addresses in From: headers breaches the RFCs for
email and usenet postings and a lot more Acceptable Use
Policies at ISPs than the punters realise. It's the kind of
thing I expect from the aforementioned nine year olds, not
    adults with access to technology.

It's an email address. People steal and swap email addresses
all the time. So delete it, make a new one, move on. Get
    over it.

    </rant>

I just checked. There's lots of combinations and permutations
of 'smee' and 'r1100s' and such '.com' available. 'kickindanuts.com'
has a squatter on it, but .net and .org are up for grabs. You
could have the thing going by this afternoon with a little
    effort.

Geez, strike me in a good mood and I'll even set you up a
dozen or so email addresses in 'selfabusedelephant.com' or
'threefiddy.com' or 'sonicbluebear.com' or one of those. Just
ask. Ain't no need to operate on one email address in this
    life.

(Actually, while I'm ranting on things technical, how is the
usenet server situation going at the moment. Do I need to get
off my arse and make mine accessible yet, or are there still
public ones around that work ok?)

    I have several email addresses

    The address never went public

More grown up than yourself by the look of it with that sort of tone.

I don't get spam, this guy got access to a database he wasn't supposed
    to. pure and simple.

I have several email addresses and don't strike spam from any of them

    Sunsite still works fine.
Someone posted that it was going to drop aus.groups so there is the
    backup one with x-news.privat

Thanks for the technology lesson but in this case acess to a database
was given to the aforementioned person and he abused it.

Only via the website. Standard emails have the poster's address in it.
The reply to field is the Yahoogroup.
You would have if you posted to any of the participating Yahoogroups.

An English teacher can probably tell you the difference
I'm sure -given enough thinking time- I could think of one example of
something good John Howard has done for us, but that wouldn't mean I was
    stating, suggesting or implying
that he had done more than one good thing for anyone.

That's the third time you've mentioned that.. Don't you know enough
about anatomy to know that men can't bear other men's children? Will I
have to get Hammo to explain it?
Hot.. I was out in the sun all day today watching the Super Trials at
Sedgwick. It was a lovely day for it. Shit can those blokes ride or
what!!! Lots of good pics if you follow the photo gallery links at

Well, IANAL, so I'm happy to be corrected, however this goes against
everything I've been told and read about the subject - I gather you have
some specific example in mind ?

Yes, unfortunately I suspect I'm very much in the sights of these new
laws - avowedly republican and a hearty dislike for the current govt's
behaviours and vocal about. Squarely illegal under the new laws.
Yeah, OK, the KR1 and the DNA are yours to look after until they
hopefully release me eventually (Mandela only got 30 years, I hope I do
better than that), the Xraptor is Rob's to babysit*.
Hmmm, so who wants to babysit the rest ?
Limitations of his garage you mean ?

    JL
*It seems only fair as I've babysat several of his bikes

Yeah well that's what all the people who are backing these laws seem to
think, but if you actually look at the *letter* of the law, and realise
it's going to be administered by bureaucrats and the secret police, then
white men in suits are getting jumpy too.
That's how the thin edge of the wedge starts...

Kept Mark Latham out of the PM's job is something good he has done
    (confirmed by his Labor colleagues).

But Doug, how do I know that they won't. It will, after all, be illegal,
and hence they would be perfectly in their rights to do so*.

Why would you pass a law you don't plan on enforcing ? That doesn't
sound like good law making to me.

Here's a thought, why not just make the thing illegal you're trying to
stop if you're only going to arrest SOME people for breaking a law.

    JL
(*cos sure as hell I'm not going to stop saying I think Howard is a ****
and the worst thing to happen to Australia since rabbits, cane toads and
the 1919 Influenza epidemic, nor am I going to stop saying the Queen of
England is welcome to rule Brittania as long as she likes but the head
of state of a country should bloody be a citizen.)

Because they'd have to arrest half of Australia, then the other half
would have to become prison officers to look after them and there'd be
nobody left to do all the work...
You and yours are not the intended targets.
    Pah! Pub talk... : )

More correctly, he has kept Costello out of the PM's job. (Although
whether that is a good thing I don't know... I'm pretty sure they both
cheered as loudly as each other when it was announced in Federal
Parliament that Australian workers had been sacked illegally.)
