just what i was thinking, but id want a sorta plug that wont vibrate loose
mid riding. i figure my pillion seat can have a helmet strap sticking out
from under it, it can have a small cord, sticking out into my rack bag or
    what ever.

The small socket doover I use doesn't vibrate loose. If it doesn't ona
    Guzzi, it won't anywhere else!

I usually support the big cig socket, because it is heavy, and you don't
    want it flapping about.

One thing the small socket gives me is that I don'thave to have the big
thing taking up room unless needed. Most of the time the ipod can run
off its own battery, it only needs the bike's power when on long trips.

Ditto most electrical gear, it's only needed on long trips, the rest of
the time the big socket is just taking up room and being inconvenient.

Recharging, Yes, Jumpstarting, no. You would need *much* thicker wires.

It's an easy job. The cigarette lighter plug, a metre or two of black and red
wire and a fuse holder and some connectors which will fit the battery terminal
screws. You should escape from Dick Smith or Jaycar with change from $10.
Both do mail order via their websites I think. My advice is to check out the
fuses on the CBR, find out what type they are, (blade or mini blade) and buy a
fuse holder which matches the existing fuses, that way your accessory plug
fuse becomes a spare for the existing fuses, and if necessary, they are spares
    for your accessory plug.

  5. I just fitted a standard dc socket near my helmet lock on the CBR, I use
it to run my GPS and to keep the battery charged when I don't ride it
for a while. Mine is connected straight to the battery via a 2A fuse.

The hole in the helmet was supposedly Barry Sheene, wasn't it?
    .......dunno about the ashtray.

I certainly haven't done either, but I admit to getting a BMW flip-up
helmet as soon as they became available in Oz.

I'm still trying to figure out an effective ashtray for a motorcycle.

  8. I believe so. I saw a picture somewhere once of him having a durrie
through it, then I think he whacked a bit of tape over it for the race.

    OK

i got all the stuff i need

a spade fuse holder, some wire, some battery terminals, and a cigi socket.

so i connect the fuse on the positive side, into the cigi socket inside or
    outside positive?

so this wont damage anything connect it strait to the battry?

also how would i go about putting in a switch to turn on a small light
inside the boot, would an automotive switch burn out with the current?

  10. Yes, inside/centre terminal, the body/outside is connected to the metal
body of the car, so it is negative/earth.
Not if the load isn't too excessive, or you flatline the battery with
    the motor off :)
Only if you put in a search light, an automotive switch should handle
the load of an 18W bulb, just divide watts by volts to get amps, and
check that the switch can handle that load.

yeah i might buy an illuminated on off switch, so i can turn the power
    socket on and off.

Wire up a small boot light off the same power feed.
