MOU for 50% sale of MV Agusta

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by CAV.Dott.Ing.HatzOlah®, Oct 30, 2003.

  1. Yes it is true, a certain Malaysian concern has signed a MOU for a 50%
purchase of MV Agusta (aka GOD)

Not sure if this includes Cagiva and Husqvarna brands, but yeah 50% of MV is
being sold (STOC) to them and the price paid has not been disclosed

The Malaysian company concerned already owns Lotus of UK , and in it's press
release has stated that they have full intention of getting MV Agusta back
to it's dominant position on the world's race track, and to get help from a
"top class rider" i was thinking VALENTINO???? Well that's one good thing to
    come out of it.......

    Hope you all enjoyed that

Hope Cagivas management do not f*ck this one up as well.
Bike lovers they may be but financial managers and quality control
    engineers they are not !

Makes sense with their recent foray into motoGP. Not much point them
having a bike racing division marketing shitty cars.

Not that shitty - mate's proton satria gti goes rather well - way too wogboy for
me looks-wise,and noisy as all get out, but it's a nimble little thing

    <shrug>

It's about as close to the original Mirage as a Shelby Cobra is to the original
AC. Suspension is radically better, brakes are uprated, new head, new pistons,
new exhaust, new body, new interior. Whatever. It drives like a slot car and
makes a gorgeous wail at the top end of the rev range. It deserves the
"suspension by lotus" badge on the back. On the other hand it looks bloody
atrocious in my not particularly humble opinion.

Take one for a flog through a windy road and see how much like a mirage you
    reckon it is

    JL
(the base satria may well be indistinguishable from a mirage i wouldn't know
i've never driven one - zero interest in shopping trolleys)

  10. I'm not syaing they're not a bundle of fun but it is a Mirage. Sure it's a
modded Mirage but a Mirage none the less. I just don't like it when car
manuf's rebadge something and call it their own.
And I'd rather have my bike... :)

OK well there's a fundamental misunderstanding there again

Proton BOUGHT the tooling, it's not a rebadged mirage (i thought you were being
sarky), it's their plant, they make it in malaysia, it has every right to be
called a proton and NO right to be called a mirage (despite sharing a number of
    commonalities)

    JL
(and I still wouldn't buy one)

  12. They could have changed the tooling so it didn't say MMC everywhere...

Mate at work has one. Fun little car but to me it's a Mirage. Same as the
    M21 is a CC Lancer.

  13. The WAJA is all Proton, still a nice enough vehicle just WAY overpriced even
    with 2 price cuts

Perhaps Proton are like MV Agusta and like charging top dollar, they will fit
    in well together
