Well I'll bet (and I CBA to Google) that more people die from doing cuntish
tricks in their own homes than all the bike AND drug overdose deaths put
    together.

Hmm, I'm 99% certain horse riding is actually much more dangerous than
    biking.

Depends how you measure it. Are you taking absolute numbers of A&E
visits, or divided my known participants, or by miles covered per annum?

So do they hang you up by the balls if you de-restrict it and add a
    turbo, noisy pipes etc.?

No French equivalent of an MoT - yet, so if your paperwork and VIN
correctly identify it as a French market bike, presumably you can do a
    fair amount of 'stealth' tuning.

They seem fairly relaxed about loud pipes, but Cab etc. may know
    different.

Something as obvious as an after market turbo might arouse suspicion.

I suspect that a bike found to be over the limit might even be
    confiscated.

No MoT for bikes in France - yet.

In view of the relative cheapness of bikes in the UK there is a recent
article on the FFMC web site about importing used bikes. Mentions the
100 BHP limit and CoC requirement to prove it.

Bummer! Taking all of the joy out of life never really struck me as a
    French trait.

No one really seems to give a monkeys about power or noise in Turkey. As
you can tell on a Sunday morning as the local posse whips by on the way
to Kemer. The massive cost of motorcycles and insurance seems to keep it
    under control.

They are quite relaxed about the loud pipes round my way over here in
France. I've been stopped a couple of times on my Tiger (imported from
UK) once for a speeding offence and the other for a doc check. They
didn't even bother looking over the bike. However, I have been informed
by various sources that if they suspect the bike is over the maximum
then they can haul it away and test it. Not sure how they would judge
this, but a turbo would be a good first clue....

The dealers are also subject to big fines for modifying bikes above the
threshold which stops a lot of people having things done.

I guess as long as the modded bike is road legal and the insurance is
sorted then why not. It also explains why there are a shed load of tuned
to the hilt supermotards round here as well.

I'm prepped for if (probably when) they introduce the MOT in France for
bikes though. Just download the original fuel map and put the removable
baffle back in to the exhaust. Back to EU spec in an instant. Proves how
stupid the BHP limit is really.

What makes you think they have MOTs in other countries?

  17. It's probably just as well. Makes them realise that their government
    considers them second-grade European citizens.

You should have been at Chimay when Bonwick (pissed) let some Frenchman
(not entirely sober either) HAGM on his full-power (and tweaked beyond
    that) ZX10R.

The Frog came back almost weeping, and for the rest of his days he will
know exactly what he and his compatriots are missing: life beyond
    100bhp.

This sort of psychological warfare against our ancestral enemy is *good*

They can confiscate the bike, at the very least. I've not heard of any
scare stories where this has happened, mind.

That reminds me of on of my local dealers. He told me of a story where
a guy asked to have his machine derestricted. The dealer told him that
he couldn't, big fines, etc, etc. The bloke replied, "Well I am the
chief superintendent at the local nick, so I think I can let this one
    slide"[1]

I know that the FFMC is still pushing for a relaxation on the laws.
It's been a few years they've been pushing tho'.
