If you want some more fun, go North on rte 20 from your hotel. Before
you get to Burghausen, you'll come to the village of Tittmoning. Head
due East from there, and in ~5 miles you can get to Fucking.

 

In castles, I'd go for fortifications which were designed to be used,
which means no large perpendicular walls after the mid to late middle
ages. I realise that "chateau" and "schloss" are used for non-fortified
mansions, as well, but Neuschwanstein is a 19th-century fantasy pastiche
based on Wagner's pseudo-medievalism, so is not a "real castle" on
several levels. I acknowledge that it is quite fun, though; I also
commend to the OP Europe's tens or hundreds of thousands of absolutely
real medieval castles.

If you go anywhere near Neuschwanstein then you can make a short detour

IME, especially if you compare them to microbreweries over here. We
have two in Basel, actually, both of which produce some splendid
