Motorcycle Parking in Lewisham

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Lemmiwinks, The Gerbil King, Mar 12, 2005.

  1. I have the rather dubious honour of working in Lewisham next week. Not a
part of the world I'm particularly familiar with.

Anyone know what the deal is on bike parking there?
http://www.motorcycleparking.com/ says its free everywhere (residents
bays, pay&display, etc), but Lewisham council's web site contradicts
this completely. I don't really want to find out the expensive way...

  2. Get there early and ask a parking attendant.

  3. Traffic warden, and **** the new PC nomenclature.

    Or just call 'em bastards.

  4. They're traffic wardens back home. Funnily enough, I've never wanted to
call them anything other than parking attendants up here. It isn't a PC
thing, just a what sounds right thing.

You're right though, they could best be described as bastards sometimes
but if you want to know where you can park, they're the best people to
    ask imho.

I think it's more about authority/confrontation. Wardens have the comedy
On the Buses Blakie/Beano Parkie image, universally derided, whereas
Parking Attendants are less threatening; more service/servility centred.

They also, probably, have fewer powers and are subject to much more
supervision and less discretion than their TW forebears.

  7. The car park in Slaithwaite road has a designated M/C area, but I've only
    ever parked the cage there.

Don't trust the wardens; my wife picked up a 100 quid ticket after one of
them told her that as the machine was not dispensing the pay & display tags
it was OK to park without one. Appeal in progress. Bastards indeed.

    Hope this helps

  8. Nice one, thanks. That's not too far from where I need to be, I think.
Well yeah, I appreciate WC's suggestion of asking a traffic warden, but
at the same time I know what utter wankers they can be as we have
controlled parking (operated by a council contractor) where I live --
their main priority seems to be ensuring they issue their quota of
tickets per day, so I wouldn't trust them any further than I could
    comfortably spit a rat.
