  2. That is a bit more accurate.

    "Some" being the operative word.

It didn't actually say it was chopping up the molecules, although that
was certainly the inference. It did, however, make the point that
modern car oils contain additional lubricants that may make a bike's
    wet clutch slip.

Personally, I always (let the bike shop) use proper bike oil, but if I
was a pikey I'd prolly stick any old shite in it unless/until I
started to get a slipping clutch.

I imagine he'd generally rather you didn't hold his hand at all.

I think I'd have to pay them if I made a claim on it.

[1] Later ones don't have one either (well, at least my '71 hasn't)[2]

[2] I used Morrison straight 30 for a long time, but I'm contemplating
something like GTX in the future.

'71 is an early one ... The type 4 'pancake' 1.7 and 2.0 litre engines
have filters the 1.1, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6 upright ones (the early type) don't.

I always think of Beetles first when I think about aircooled VW. I tend to
consider mine (1302) quite modern as it doesn't have the beam axle and
    sloping headlights anymore.

Try a paint/body shop, they generally filter all thier paint before
    using it...

And I'd add another "some" in front of clutches. Before worrying about
this, check with people who know if your bike is affected.

I once tried Halford's standard 10W/40 car oil, and found that the clutch
tended to slip. Haven't used a car oil since.
