    Hello,

I am just in the process of going for my Direct Access licence ( I am
    30+ ).

When I started out on my journey, like all big kids I dreamt ab out
the bike I will eventually own (probable a Honda CB500S), assuming I
had a full UK licence but with no experience.

This insurance came in around £180 (This was in June), now I am
getting insurance quotes for the same bike using the same criteria of
    around £340.

Is there any reason why this should have heppened

Thanks in advance for any info on this

Shop around. To be honest, £340 for a newbie on a 500 sounds
    reasonable to me.

You really need to work on this whole dreaming thing. Seriously.

Just what I was thinking. But a CB500's not a bad place to start.

It's a very /sensible/ place to start, for sure. But dreaming of one is
akin to dreaming of being a Big Issue seller when you grow up.

If you lived in my postcode[1] it would be about £135 according to a quick
online quote, using age 30 on a CB500S for TPF&T. £254 full comp.

You might just've been lucky and caught an insurer offering heavy discounts
to get new business. Alternatively something in your demograpic profile
might have been reassessed as riskier e.g. an increasing number of claims
in your postcode; maybe an increasing rate of claims by novice riders,
CB500S owners or your age group. It could be your occupation, surname, shoe
    size...

[1] a very low risk area in the eyes of insurers

Thanks for taking the time to post such a long and informative post
    BGN.

I have noted a lot of your points down, for when I do get around to
purchasing and insuring my 1st bike.
