Motor scooters a menace on roads: survey
    Wednesday Jul 18 07:25 AEST

As motorcycle and scooter sales soar, more than one third of NSW
drivers say scooters are the "new menace" on Sydney roads.

    http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=172813

Bloody hell. Motor scooters mean a net result of less traffic
gridlock on our city roads, a reduction in fuel usage and resultant
exhaust emissions, less demand on dedicated parking etc and now people
are complaining because there are too many of them.

Ya just can't phuckin' win can ya?

  3. I can remember when scooters were the new fad in late 1958,
people complained then about them being a nuisance ion the roads and that
was when you could travel from Ringwood to Melbourne at 8am and get into the
city at 8.40am. through the week, with the only hold-up being the Kew
Junction where if you got caught by the lights, you had to wait for 2
minutes to get through, you would arrive in the city before the train and
that was by car, I remember being passed by many motor scooters and motor
bikes and thinking, "Damn, must get one of those"..

Holy cow George, in 1958 I was more interested in what mum had put on
my lunch for when I got to kindergarten that day. Not motor scooters.

But I know what you mean. I've seen a lot of the modern scooters
around the streets, in showrooms and at a couple of the motorcycle
shows. I think they're great. I like to see the younger crowd
getting out there on two wheels and enjoying themselves, fantastic to
see. To some people they might be a fashion accessory, to be seen
parked at the local brasserie whilst sipping on your double decaf
latte. Big puckin' deal. As long as ya don't scratch my Darmah or
Lemon Mk III as I sit three tables down from you I don't mind?

Nothing interesting in that article. They're just spinning numbers.

"The research also showed 81 per cent of car drivers in the survey said
they had seen motorcyclists breaking the law and taking unnecessary
    risks on the roads."

I bet at least 81% of car drivers if surveyed would say they had seen
other car drivers breaking the law and taking unnecessarily risks on the
roads. Cars - the REAL menace.

    So true Nev.

How about they survey riders of two-wheeled transport as to whether
they've ever seen car drivers breaking the law? So help me, the day
will come when you read in the newspaper of an irate motorbicyclist
arrested in Sydney for shoving a female car driver upside down into a
roadside garbage bin, then jamming her mobile phone in her freckle.

That will be me, dragged off by plod after finally snapping.

Years ago when I was young ( high school) I rode/drive a Triumph Tigress
scooter for a some weeks while my 500 Bsa single was down
rather warmed over and drew some very odd looks when it passed cars at
    over 90 mph :)

( I was too tall to tuck right in or it might have made the ton)

    Why restrict it to those?

Cars in general... Yes they are useful, but so many of them have just
one person in them, they clog the roads, pollute the air, and do
dreadful damage to thousands of people every year. It is time this
    menace was properly dealt with!

Christ my MOTHER was more interested in what her mother had put in her
bag for her primary school recess. I think we have someone almost as
    old as Johno here.

Hahahahaha, you cheeky bugger JL. Just because I'm tryin' to sell my
'83 model Le Mans III because "every time i ride it now I've got to go
looking for a chiropractor" doesn't mean I'm old does it?

Thanks Theo I feel quite young now... Year 10 for me was 1969, the
year some bugger walked on the moon or somethin' like that I think?
More importantly was the release of Abbey Road and I think the
original CB750 was about to be released (I know one was by the
Beatles... not sure about the other?)
