22/22 Sete Gibernau parks his bike up by the side of the track. His rear
    tyre completely shredded!

22/22 Jubilation in the Kawasaki garage - they ae celebrating like they
    have won!

22/22 VALENTINO ROSSI WINS!! The unbelievable Olivier Jacque second
and Marco Melandri third. Gibernau holds on for fourth.

22/22 Melandri all over Gibernau!! The Spaniard about to lose third to
    his team-mate... AND DOES!!

22/22 Last lap, and Valentino Rossi has 2.5 seconds on Jacque. The
Frenchman isn't going to do it, but a magnificent performance.

21/22 Another half a second gone from Rossi's lead! This is anything but
    comfortable for Valentino Rossi!

21/22 Another fastest lap for Jacque, but Rossi has responded and the gap
is still above three seconds. Sete Gibernau shakes his head - he must wonder
    what is going on here.

20/22 Can Rossi pick up the pace to see off this challenge? He seems to
be holding his man off on this lap 20.

20/22 The gap now 3.3 seconds with three laps to go. Jacque took a full
second out of Rossi last lap to set a new fastest lap.

19/22 3.7 seconds the gap now! Jacque's Bridgestone tyres doing a
magnificent job late in the race. This would be an absolute sensation...

19/22 Four full laps to go, and Jacque has reduced arrears to 4.3 seconds
behind Rossi. Admirable, but he'll need a big slip from Rossi to reel him
    in.

18/22 Franco Battaini has crashed out, but the Italian is OK.

18/22 Fastest lap of the race for John Hopkins! 2:14.6. He's got a couple
of second to make up on sixth-placed Jurgen van der Goorbergh.

17/22 Melandri past Max Biaggi and into fourth. That helmet clearly doing
    the business.

17/22 Marco Melandri might be in trouble with his sponsor - the Italian
is using a different crash helmet from usual, a nice yellow effort.
    Presumably it offers better visibility...

16/22 Six seconds the gap between Rossi and Jacque - surely too much even
for the charging Kawasaki. What must Alex Hofmann be thinking, watching his
    replacement perform such heroics?

15/22 For those keeping score, today's attendance is 25348.

15/22 JACQUE OVERTAKES GIBERNAU!! He makes his move stick and speeds away
    from the stunned Spaniard!

14/22 No let-up from Valentino Rossi, who better Jacque's fasest lap by a
few hundredths. It will take something very dramatic to stop the mercurial
    Italian winning this.

12/22 Jacque goes sideways! He's giving absolutely 100% here as he tries
to pass Gibernau. Another fastest lap for the Frenchman, 2:14.8.

11/22 A slight wobble from Sete Gibernau as he tries to fight off Olivier
Jacque! Just half a second between them.

10/22 This is a Valentino Rossi procession. The world champion out on his
own and utterly serene. An amazing turnaround from yesterday, when the
set-up of the bike was all wrong and it just got blown away by the raw power
of the Honda and Ducati riders.

9/22 Fastest lap of the race Olivier Jacque! Stunning stuff from the
Kawasaki man, who now OVERTAKES BIAGGI!! A podium in the offing for the
    Frenchman!

9/22 A great race for the replacement riders!! Olivier Jacque fourth and
Jurgen van der Goorbergh fourth and fifth respectively. They are in for Alex
    Hofmann and Makoto Tamada.

8/22 Valentino Rossi has a SIX SECOND lead over Sete Gibernau! Who could
have predcited this after his dreadful qualifying session yesterday?

7/22 Hopkins loses it! He rides straight into the gravel and there goes
    fourh place...

6/22 Toni Elias has finally come in for his ride-through penalty! We'll
see how much ground he loses...

6/22 Carlos Checa and Troy Bayliss both go down!! Checa slides
spectacularly down the pitlane on his back!

5/22 Toni Elias has still not come in for his ride-through penalty - it's
more than possible he hasn't seen the pit board.

5/22 ROBERTS IS OUT!!! Kenny Roberts suffers a tragic mechanical failure,
and the veteran American's stunning resurgence is crushed in a heartbeat!

4/22 Toni Elias also jumped the start! What a shame for the third-placed
Spaniard who was doing so well.

4/22 Alex Barros jumped the start! He will now come into the pits for a
ridethrough. His chances go up in spume.

3/22 Shinya Nakano into the pits - will we see a bike change here?

3/22 Toni Elias has been dropped by the front two, and Roberts and Rossi
    surge clear of the pack.

2/22 Four abreast into the hairpin!! How did they all stay upright there?

2/22 Total chaos in the rain as Biaggi has a crack at Hopkins... the
    American slams the door shut!

2/22 What a start! Toni Elias in contention on the Yamaha. Unbelievable
stuff, and here comes Valentino Rossi!!

1/22 Kenny Roberts into second! Suzuki one and two here. Gibernau third
    and Rossi fifth.

1/22 Good start from Gibernau and he gets the holeshot. Now John Hopkins
sneaks through! The Suzuki man in front!

1/22 The man with the red flag walks off the track and on come the
    lights.... GOOOOO!!!

08:59 Look at that spray! This is as harsh as MotoGP conditions get. In a
wet race the riders are permitted to come in for a change of tyres, although
that probably won't be necessary - it's very wet and should remain so.

08:57 They're off on the formation lap. A reminder of the grid. 1-Sete
    Gibernau, 2-Marco Melandri, 3-Loris Capirossi, 4-John Hopkins, 5-Nicky
Hayden, 6-Valentino Rossi. Just three bikes per row, remember.

08:56 They are clearing the grid as the rain starts to fall again! It's
going to be a tough race indeed!

08:46 Delays to the earlier races mean this race may not get under way
exactly on time, but the organisers are determined to keep the hold-up to a
minimum. This race still scheduled for 09:00CET.

04:00 Welcome to our live coverage of the MOTO GP weekend in China.
MotoGP Race will start at 09:00 CET!

  2. The MotoGP website offers a rather nice live timing program if you
happen to be up when the race is running. Living in California, this
actually worked for me for the Shanghai race. I don't expect to be up
for most of the other races, though.

I'm in the US too. Have you found motogp.com? (They're always making big
    technical blunders.)

  5. I can't pin it down exactly why, but part of Jacques' post race interview
reminded me of VP nominee James Stockdale's infamous debate line, "Who am I?
    Why am I here?"
