Charming. I'll continue to give it a miss, I think.

That'll be why a hillclimber used to like it then.

The bit that I used to like was the bump under the bridge coming
towards the esses. I had about half a dozen bruises on my chest after
racing there and having the tank belt me in the chest as the front
lifted a bit smartish. The bruises weren't fun but the consistent
    wheelies were.

For the last 5 year that I have gone, the roads have been closed, and
oneway systems set up. The main entrance turns right towards the M1
and the lower entrance (park farm) turn left and go all the way round
    the back of the circuit.
If some of the spectators stayed to watch the support races, (which
are sometimes more exciting than the cavalcade recently), they would
miss most of the traffic. Especially on two wheels.

Isn't it just? First time I've heard of the changes.
I rather like it and regret the loss of the esses on the GP cct. The
    new complex looks interesting, though.

This is why I've never bothered going to any big race meet. One day
I'll visit a practice session, for the experience of seeing & hearing
the bikes working at full chat, but I've always been put off an actual
race day by all the reasons given above and by those bloody air horns
    - do they still allow them?

I can highly recommend the Lime Tree in Fort Bill...

Stayed there for a mate's wedding in September and I can safely say
that when I next go back to Fort William (which is a lot), I'll be
    staying there.

Looks nice, and as it 'appens, we're looking at going to the Brecon
Beacons at Easter. How far is that from Brecon say, realistically? I
mean, it might only be a few miles but in terms of roads etc. is it a
    bit of a schlep?

The eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park is about 9 miles away.
The Skirrid Mountain at this point is quite popular with hikers. I live
inbetween this mountain & Abergavenny town. If you want a challenge, try
walking up the Skirrid, Blorenge & Sugar Loaf in the same day.

Brecon town itself is just over 32 miles. The road is very good, with part
of it being a very scenic bit of the A40 through the Usk Valley. 35-45
minutes away, depending on traffic in Abergavenny.

There's another very scenic route via the Black Mountains, Llanthony
Priory, Capel-y-ffin & Hay on Wye. That's 44 miles and can take quite a
while as it is single track in places. I only go across it on the bike. The
views at the Hay Bluff end are fabulous.
