you know, one of the problems with my current house, is that the
previous owners did pretty much everything to it that could be done -
loft conversion, conservatory, double-door link from the front room to
the library, stripped-and-polished floorboards/parquet throughout etc.

The only thing that needed doing was a new kitchen, and fresh paint
throughout, but I've done that now.

I've nothing to talk about at the dinner parties I don't go to.

Weeeeel, I'm sure you've criticised others' taste , which sort of
implies something about yours. Here, for example:

I might have to just buy a ready-made dual sport, like an LC4 or
    something.

I'm talking about bikes, though. It's the one area where I don't
really know what I'm talking about, and can't make my mind up about
anything. I was all set on a DR-Z400 supermoto conversion and now Andy
Wegg's told me it's a pain in the arse to swap the wheels around. So,
    don't know now.

I really can't decide on what car to buy either. I'm <fx: holds finger
and thumb close together> that close to saying "sod that" to buying a
"nearly-new car that will fit in my garage", and buying a 10-year old
    Nissan Skyline.

You may want to hold that thought for a while. It looks like John Mann's
Early Day Motion to completely ban greenlaning
    (http://edm.ais.co.uk/weblink/html/motion.html/ref=380) is getting a
second reading. On the plus side, those of us who have no intention of
abiding by such legislation will enjoy our new found freedom to ride on
footpaths, bridleways etc, & save a fortune by no longer requiring tax &
insurance. There'll also probably be a large number of DRZs, EXCs, XRs
etc being sold for the price of a pint as they'll be worthless.

are you comparing it to other big singles, though? IME, they /all/
    vibe like buggery.

I've had a go on Mark Fisher's, and, true to the way he described, there are
certain RPMs where you can't actually see clearly because your eyeballs are
resonating. From memory the CCM's nowhere near as bad, although obviously
    the engine's smaller

my R30 was stupidly vibey, as was my SZR. In fact, the latter may as
well not have had mirrors, as you could never make anything out in
    them.

oh. Well, not an LC4 either.

Maybe I should just give up motorbikes.

Whilst I don't agree with the legislation being proposed either, ride
on a footpath or bridleway near me and you'll find yourself getting
    kicked off your bike.

There is a time and a place for offroading and those two are not it
    for motorised vehicles.

It's properly screwed together now, the vibe is pretty much gone above
3500 RPM. It's totally vibey around 2000 though, and the world goes
    blury.

Hmm... haven't had any problems at all with the 404's mirrors going blurry,
but maybe I'm not trying hard enough

Oh good, moving obstacles; sounds like much more fun that just dodging
    trees ;-)
That's kind of the point though. If this legislation makes it through,
there won't be a place for offroading. The dear old Rambler's Assoc. can
then turn their attention to the next challenge, banning mountain bikes
from footpaths & bridleways, probably followed by a ban on anything with
2 wheels within a 50 mile radius of a national park.
