And technically Panther and I never said one couldn't tour on a
VTR1000F.. what we said was "It isn't a tourer" which isn't the same
thing you know (or maybe you don't :)

It's not me assuming... it's you remember :)
Nah... not lame any more! We convinced Cat that biting him on the
ankles was a health hazard, and would wear out her front teeth faster :)
Define unfit... I use it to mean obese *shrug* (like about 50% of middle
    aged bikers).
Nah, tuned well, good pipes... 110ps on the dyno... dead empty in 180.

Capable of lapping a race track in times competitive with other sporty
bikes in it's capacity class (in stock form).
I've been trying to shrink ever since the Aviation quack started making
noises about Body Mass Index! :)

  7. No Dale hasn't seen the obvious yet. He apparently needs to get out more.
Sydney is full of ppl similar, he'll do well there!

    Hammo

PS Dale says you aren't from Melbourne. He gets lousy fuel economy and his
bike is well set up. He is so funny....

  9. Eh, you don't know? You said unfit, not obese. Obese, you think that that
    is just you?
Nah, dead empty is after three weeks of commuting.

    Here comes the semantics.....

    I guess I win. Ta.

    Hammo's on School Holidays!

(anyway: there _is_ a difference between a Tourer and a Bike You Can
Tour On. There has to be, since you can, if you are sufficiently
determined, tour on anything, and therefore if they are not
different sets, "Tourer" is meaningless. Whereas people quite
clearly _do_ mean something when they say "tourer" ... the VTR
and the VTR might be in a grey area, but the TZR250, for example,
    isn't.)

Anyway, you sold the bloody things, you Kawasaki owner!

So would the "1200 Sporty" have to be competitive against the ZZ-R1200 or the
    ZX-12R ?

Of course it depends on what you mean by 'tour'. If it means trips that
take more than a day to get there and back, I guess my epic trip from
Melb to Wangaratta in 1970 on a 50cc Vespa was 'touring'. I carried
luggage. A suitcase tied to the rack on the front.

Then againthere was the two-up trip to a rally near Walhalla in 1972 on
    a Suzuki A100.

Neither are feats I would attempt again (unless there was a decent
    trophy offering).

  16. No I'm bloody not! I had a bloody TC today!
I believe it is meaningless. Or it used to denigrate one bike (or a class
of bikes) by ppl that need to do that.

    Whereas people quite
I went to my first Alpine on a RZ350.

Eh? What's wrong with calling a (for example) ST1100 a "tourer".
I'd hardly call that denigrating ...
Yeah, and, well, you can tour on it but it's not a bloody tourer.
And speaking of vast, fuzzy grey areas, there's also the
    "rally tourer" ...

  19. It must be, why have a class called sports tourer?

Sports bikes are supposed to be too hard to tour on 'cos they are hardcore.
Hence anything less than that is relegated to sub class.

It is a ridiculous as having a city car that can't handle freeways.
    ....but what is it?
    Rally tourer? That's a 4wd aint it?
9-11? Why is that so familiar?

I'll check where I am supposed to be....Ah, and it aint Dargo!
