Let's try again. How would you feel about a comparison with engines of equal
HP. You seem to be hung up on HP. That Audi Site is crap, isn't it.

I found a turbo petrol engine and a turbo diesel with the same HP after much
    searching
    Smart roadster 3 cyl 700cc 60 Kw, 110Nm 5.2 l/100km
    Getz diesel 3 cyl 1500cc, 60Kw, 191Nm 4.7 l/100km
    Didn't like that comparo? :)

My son used to have a Saab 9000 turbo. The lag was the reason he hated and
sold it. It was a piece of shit.

Do you actually know the difference between petrol and diesel turbos John?
With a petrol turbo the turbo spins down and stops at idle and low throttle
settings. This gives you no boost at low throttle settings. what you have
then is a low tune, underpowered petrol engine. To get power you have to put
your foot down and wait, and wait. An absolute pain in a Saab if you back
off before overtaking and then try to pass when the road ahead is clear.

With a diesel turbo the turbo never spins down and never ever stops (untill
you turn the engine off). This is why a turbo diesel has little or no lag.
The diesel has equivalent power output to a normally aspirated petrol engine
of the same size and a LOT more torque. And torque is a lot more important
    than Hp.

What does he want a HUD for? If Sydney bus drivers can take their
eyes off the road for extended periods of time to send SMS messages
with their mobile phones, why can't he?

GB, HUD? We don't need no stikin' HUD!

If you want 50 horsies out of a smallish diesel, you're talking Turbo.
This page might tell you something:
    http://www.kubotaengine.com/kubotaperformance.htm
.... although they're using SAE horses, not Motorcycle Press Kit
Horses, and I'm not sure how they relate.

    It'd be just a trifle ugly :)

They're a very capable, practical machine, boring as bat shit though.
Yeah I started down that route, ordered the Ohlins, took off the centre
stand for ground clearance, priced getting seats and etc, and then
bought the Raptor on impulse, best decision I ever made (in
context, getting a sportier bike that is, I probably should have bought
the TNT instead of the Raptor), it wasn't until I'd clocked up more
Km's in a month on the Raptor than I had in the previous 18months on
the Bandit that I realised I rather disliked the Bandit and didn't
    enjoy riding it at all.

Don't get me wrong for the right person they're a brilliant bike, but
they're just too much the motorcycling equivalent of a Camry for me.

All it takes is an MP3 player, a 900watt amp and a suitable horn speaker
    mounted under the ducktail!

  20. They were "competitive" in 1986, Gerhard Berger won at Mexico City in a
Benneton BMW, and that engine was still used up till 1988 by Arrows.
