I guess. Although strictly speaking I think we use them as tools for
slightly different jobs. For me the ideal bike weekend is what we're
doing next weekend, a thousand km or so in a weekend, as much as
possible of it windy roads (I'll be doing Oxley, Waterfall etc)
Mmm again we're saying the same thing to mean different things I think,
for me it's also about the trip, but anytime I'm on a road I have to put
cruise control on (car or bike) means I've stuffed up on the route planning.

On those parameters you should be living in Hobart or Adelaide and good
    luck to you !

So find me a job in Adelaide dammit!

Fine. I'll see who's free at the moment... Mr. Du-Bakey's free, but
he's a little bit concilliatory... Yes, try Mr. Barnard -- Room 12.

If a bloke says something in the forest, but there's no sheila to hear him, is he still wrong?

  7. I'd agree, except for the safety bit. After being T-Boned in a car, I'd
buy the same brand again seeing as it held together so well.

Its another reason I'm not too keen on fuel cells and LPG.

Hobart is nice, but the boat makes the place more isolated than
Adelaide. Adelaide is only a days ride from anywhere in vic or NSW.

    Compressed Natural Gas vehicles.

They are available ex stock from Mercedes Benz. All that it needs for
widespread acceptence is for the government to extend the axle mass
limit permits to the private fleets instead of restricting them to thier
    city fleets!

Bio Diesel has potential, but a friend of mine runs a bus company in
Bendigo. They did a bio diesel trial on 30 buses. The bio diesel is
fine, but the additive required to let existing buses run it is
extremely toxic and present _huge_ handling and storage issues.

At the moment no one makes bio diesel tuned buses ex stock, if they did
then my opinion might alter (but MB looked at that and went the NGV
route, and so did MAN). And MB seem to be skipping Bio Diesel and going
straight to Fuel Cell (these are available in limited numbers ex stock),
but also require axle mass exemption permits (which the government are
not granting yet expect for the trail ones in perth). [1]

[1] NGV and fuel cell buses weigh more, so more mass is over (heavier)
axles. This means either less passenger carrying capacity (which makes
them unviable) or an increase in the allowable mass carried on a single
front/single rear axle vehicle to that standard in most of the rest of
the world (18 tonne... currently 16 tonne). It is currently
artificially low here due to our 'thinner' roads (or so claimed).

Once upon a time, some crazy yanks decided to build an X24 (think two V12's
with a common crank shaft mounted on top of each other). Problems abound
such as all 24 lower spark plugs[1] getting fouled/flooded with oil when
left not operating for a day or three. Was designed for big-arse
aeroplanes with over 5000HP, 24 cylinders and many dozen litre capacity -
now THAT is a real man's engine!!

[1] yep - this beast had dual magneto ignition on each cylinder: 24
    cylinders, two sparklers each.

Will fuel cells burn? More water than anything, aren't they?

....and Ford Australia's inline 6 - the Barra182 powerinng the BA falcons
    (4.0L, 182kW, 380nm - and smooth as silk from idle to red-line[1])

[1] OK - so the BA's don't actually HAVE a red arc/line on the tacho, but
they do have a rev limiter somewhere up around 6000RPM...never found it
    though.

At a Driver Reviver stop on the New England Highway a bod turned up
looking a bit strung out. He'd come from Melbourne and was going to
Brisbane. Nonstop. Wouldn't listen to people suggesting he should have
a nap.... I made a note to leave before he did.

:) I do have some experience of residing in other places John. Two years in
Sydney, six months in Melbourne, three months in Adelaide, a year in London,
and a year in the USA. Other places I've only visited. I'll stick to my
    country town thanks.
Well, you can get a non-plumbed version for a few dollars less, but that is
a pain for me. The sub $2000 machines will not have a rotary pump and are
not worth considering. I've only moved house, other than overseas and
interstate sojourns, once since 1971. I can sit out on the patio and watch
the chooks scratching around the flower beds whilst I'm sipping my coffee.

My son's car has a limit setting for the city. Set's it to 60 in the city
and the car is driven normally, no messing with turning cruise control on
and off, just wont go over sixty.

Yeah, I know, you had a car like that too.

We have a bunch of buses here on CNG, but they're called CNG not NGV. It
even says so on the compulsory little red diamond on the number plate. We
really do have an avant garde range of buses in Perth. LPG, CNG, fuel cell,
Euro standard diesel. When we get them sorted out we'll let the rest of the
    country in on the secret.

That BRM made an amazing sound.

I have an mp3 file made in-car and it really stirs the blood.
