It's a couple of weeks past that time of year for the 10R so I'm off
to the tame testers to see if they get moody about anything.

It's quite a sad state of affairs that I've only done 800 miles on it
in the last 12 months but a fair chunk of that was done at the MGP so
they've not been very slow miles.

It passed but I was told to take a legal number plate with me next
time because he's had a bollocking for passing bikes with illegal
    plates.

My MOT examiner was very grumpy due to muggy weather, he wrote up the
cracked number plate (which passed last year) along with a rusted through
bracing box on the swingarm and perished handle grips.

You'd think MV Agusta would use something more fancy than steel for a swing
    arm

When I put the SOC through an MOT earlier in the year, they gaffa taped
my legal plates to the questionable ones, and removed them as soon as it
    was written up.

I fail to see why the examiner not passing something as structural and
critical as the swingarm is due to him being 'grumpy'.

  7. I'd have failed the swingarm. The bracing on it becomes an integral part
of it, such that if a part of it fails, it would affect the handling in
    extremis.
Consider yourself lucky and get it welded or replaced asap.

My lad got his bike mot'd a couple of weeks ago. When he phoned to
book it in they advised him to make sure it had both a legal plate and
    exhausts.

I'm still baffled to how a small plate compromises the mechanical
    safety of a vehicle.

My bike's mot is due in..<checks docs>..bugger, last Friday.

  9. I think it's more "legal and fit for the road" these days.
And illegal plates are by definition, not legal.

Never seen the point of illegal plates anyway. All they do is draw attention
to yourself and make it MORE likely you'll get pulled over by the rozzers.

They are now, and the testers seem to be _red hot_ on this point at the
    moment!

The guy I use said it's because he's being 'watched' after somebody
being tugged for a *very* illegal plate pointed out to the cops that
it couldn't possibly be a problem because it'd just passed it's test.

He suggested that I just carry the original plate with me and he'd
pass the bike as if it was fitted so all I need to do now is find the
    old one before I forget.

There was a spare in the back of the shed but it cost me £25 for new bushes
as the one's in it were knackered.

New plate regs apply to bikes registered since Sept 2001. An older set
of regs before then specified the size, colour and style of the plate
and letters, just not in quite so much detail.

That's strange, as 2 different stations in the past 2 years have insisted
    my '98 ZX9 had a standard plate.
