Morini: the comedy begins

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by The Older Gentleman, Jun 2, 2006.

  1. It passed the MoT. That was a minoir miracle. Anyway, with the new air
filters it seemed to be running a tad rich, rather than lean, which is
    wat it was running before.

Some experimentation with revs revealed that in the midrange it was a
bit fluffy. WFO it seemed OK.

On the way back, half a mile from home, I gave it beans and the noise,
already a tad loud, became apocalyptic. Yes, it had just spat all the
baffling and the silencer end cap into the road.

A council dustcart got to the blackened parts before I did and fucking
    flattened them.

    Bugger.

It now has a straight-through two-into-one and actually runs really
well, but The Doctor has said: "You *can't* start that up in this
    street...."

It might get to Chimay, but it'll be earplugs all the way.

You let Timo touch it didn't you.
I can see the headlines now: "Doctor goes on motorbike crushing frenzy
    in stolen dustcart".
    Fucking NIMBYs.

    <Hangs head in shame>

    Yes.....
You ain't heard it. There's loud, LOUD, and OH MY BLEEDING EARS, and
it's beyond that and into the realms of bending noise meter needles.
It's as loud as the loudest ShiteOldRacers at Chimay.

The good news is that I've rung my local dealer enquiring about DIY
baffle kits and he flogs such. "You just hammer it into the can and
secure it with a self-tapper. Drill a small hole through the end of the
    silencer..."

That's the sort of engineering I can handle. I am absolutely not
spending silly money on this thing.

The other good news is that the clutch oil seals appear ro be holding.

That is until the added back pressure of the new baffles kicks in...

  6. Italian chrome bits. The curse is still strong on them. Been a laugh if
it had happened during the MoT.

Just for fun, do what I did with a C15 and loosely pack the empty silencer
with steel wool (though at least I had the luxury of a bit of baffle to
hold the steel wool in). Works quite well until the steel wool starts to
burn, then you look like Armageddon going down the road. Oh how we
    laughed.

Lasts much longer if you use stainless steel pan scrubbers that are
    available nowadays. John.

Until SWMBO asks if you've seen the scrubber & you tell her to look in
a mirror - that could be quite entertaining ;-)
