Course, it doesn't mean that you *won't* get snails. I went to a
recommended restaurant, ordered the meat paella and got one with snails.
This was after the plate load of whitebait, complete with heads.

Bear secured a place in history by writing:
Agreed, but I can't bring myself to eat them. I wuss out in a way that
disturbs me, much like I did when our Mum gave us blue mashed potato.

I went to some restaurant in Stockwell a few years ago that served,
basically, insects. I struggled to eat even a mouthful.

The power of social conditioning, bummer innit.

Snails are one of the traditional dishes in Lleida/Lerida, where there is an
"Aplec del cargol" (Catalan for Snail Meeting, sort of a Snail Oktoberfest).
And believe me that there are so many ways to cook them besides garlic :)

We only need those fancy German lederhosen! :)
See massive cooking of snails (rows 3, 4) and La Carmichael after trying the
extra spicy snail recipee (last picture)

I had some spicy snails here http://www.goldenpagesmed.com/malta/3205
SWMBO & I called in for a meal but were by Maltese standards to early
in the evening. The owner decided we'd make ideal guinea pigs to try
his new recipe to kill some time before our meal. I liked them but
have no idea if that recipe made it onto the menu.

  11. At one time I lived in the next village to Pfaffenweiler[1] in the high
Black Forest. They had two things of note:

The Pfaffenweiler Stueber[2] a restaurant that won the Michelin Gold
Award for best in it's class in 1979.

    And

A Snail Festival each year the Pfaffenweiler Schnecken Fest.
Snails served every way possible with lots of excellent wine.
