More odd behaviour from my ZZR1200

    Greetings,
Recently I've experienced something strange when slowing down
from highway speed on my ZZR1200. If I change down to either 5th or 4th and
let the engine brake, occasionally the bike will jump out of gear and into a
'false' neutral. The first time it happened, it almost felt like it was
misfiring as it jumped rapidly in and out of gear. It didn't drop out of
gear though. But the last couple of times, it's dropped out altogether. I
know it's changing down cleanly, because I've been concious of that since
the first time it happened. I thought maybe I hadn't pushed the lever down
hard enough or something, resulting in an 'incomplete' change, if such a
    thing is possible.

Anyone else had this happen? If so, what was the cause/solution. I've got
the local dealer to call Kawasaki to find out if it's a 'known' issue, but
I'd like some other input as well.

    Thanks,

How long since you changed the oil?

It was changed at the first service, approx 1500kms ago.

Then I'd be saying, "Dealer, fix my bike".

You're probably just changed gear too lazily.

  8. checked the operation of the gear lever? is it loose?
Just dump it on your dealer - demand a VN800 to cruise around on in the
meantime. They are interesting experience - so take the opportunity to
    ride one.

What Nev said. Lazy gear changes.

Whilst admittedly the tyre valve stems are probably the
only common component, I had similar 'false neutral' and
jumping out of gear problems on my 03 zzr250, but it always
seemed to happen to me on the upchanges whilst pottering
around slowly in traffic, etc. Solution for me was to keep
lifting the pedal until the clutch was all the way out
again - once the load is back on it, it's happy to stay
in gear and never gives any grief. Still happens to me
when I get lazy, the box seems to have enough space in
it for a 'false' neutral between a few gears.

If that doesn't work, try splitting the cases.

No no.....this only happens on deceleration. I'm riding along in top gear
at 100kmh, I roll off the throttle and almost immediately it starts to drop
in and out of gear. Its happened once in 6th gear, twice in 5th and once in
4th now. The last 2 times (in 5th and 4th), it dropped totally out of gear
(having briefly engaged upon change-down), leaving me coasting along on an
idling bike stuck somewhere in limbo between gears. I've yet to discover
the false neutral thing on the upchanges.

Either way, the bike shop wants it to have a look at it. They mentioned
something about a 'selector drum' (can't remember exactly the terminology
used) and being able to look at it by removing the clutch cover? Hopefully
it's as simple as that to diagnose.....I don't fancy having a bike with less
than 4000kms on it totally pulled apart :-(
