    Er, no..

I'm saying that traffic cops are rather "inventive" when it comes to
pinging motorists. It could involve forcing their way into the emergency
lane to give pursuit, or if he's on a bike, to simply do what you're
    doing, and lane split.

Or, as someone else pointed out, a call on the radio to have one of his
mates waiting for you down the road...

The roads UB has in mind, the only way that could work would be if the
light bar on top of the cop car can split open and sprout a helicopter
rotor. Peak hour on inner and northern Sydney arterials is a stop-motion
    parking lot.

Run the centre line between two lanes. Left lane drivers move a little
to the left, right lane drivers move a little to the right. Then there's
    enough room down the centre.

Unless the cars have left zero room to the car in front there is usually
enough room to swing across on a hard lock

Not enough for a cop to chase a bike but certainly enough to allow
    passage of an emergency vehicle.

You've obviously not spent much time in Sydney then, I've seen it happen
quite a few times, granted it's not down the length of a freeway, it's
more usually down Parramatta Rd or similar until he gets a clear run up
the wrong side of the road.

We don't usually have freeways that come to a complete halt with no
opportunity for a cop to go around - do they do that in Melbourne ?
