more fully serviced than a fully serviced thing

    Bandit 600.

New plugs (old ones looked fine, bit black), air filter (old one looked
clean as a whistle), carbs (from ebay, cos I was running out of things
to change, hesitation at 4k seems to have gone, some popping on the
overrun which would indicate the mixture has leaned off - good), valve
clearances done (all bob on, except for one which was about a thou out),
    carbs balanced.

If its mpg doesn't improve, then I'm stumped.

Fit an extra strong throttle return spring.

Heh. Could have done with one of those on the Gilera.

I spent TWO HOURS on it faffing around trying to get that little white
plastic thing in the twistgrip and everything to work smoothly. Finally,
I could get the throttle to snap back if I didn't connect the 'push'
    throttle cable.

In the end I concluded that the cable outers were too long. I had all
the adjusters backed off and connecting both throttle cables semed to
    have everything under tension.

A bit of careful work with a dremel to shorten one of the outers and I
    *think* I've got it now.

I did say it was fiddly.

Perhaps the bloke I bought it off had fitted two pull cables in error
and bodged it by leaving the cable guide out.
