Some journo apparently went undercover during the recruitment/training
process and recorded (English) cops at their finest. Looks like a fantastic
insight into the simple mind of a policeperson, tonight SBS 8:30

    Ignoring the fact that these recruits weren't the sharpest tools in the box;
    Entrapment springs to mind.
    Media manipulation also.
I think in general most blokes, myself included, "tough-it-up" a little when
speaking to other blokes, particularly on these sort of topics to out-do
each other. I'd say most of these candid conversations were horseshit.
With the exception of PC Pulling who seemed like a right evil fucker.

Now do you understand why it's a problem when a copper thinks that the
west australian KKK coppers past the camera incident is funny?

  5. It still begs the question, would they really be like that to members of the
    public?

    Hammo

Also begs the question as to why some people become cops?

Then what were they doing trying to become cops?
    What's good for the goose...
(honk) There goes that goose again...
So, should the pub conversation turn to, oh, I dunno, smacking women around
when they decline to put out, you'd, what, take swig from your schooner,
belch, and retort with something like, "Yeh. Fuggen prickteases." rather
than stay quiet and think to yourself "Fuggen dropkick. I've gotta find some
people to hang out with who aren't fuckwits."?
No, what's horseshit is people who aren't bright, who are barely aware of
the world beyond the last barn in their village, and who have anything other
than the most rigid sense of compassion and altruism trying to become cops.
He just had the biggest mouth... every one of them deserved a one-way ticket
    to Islamabad.

Whilst I agree with what you said I think you are looking at this at too
    clinical a level.
I believe that in *most* cases the horseshit ratio increases on *most*
subjects in direct proportion to the amount of guys involved (and alcohol).
And that a bloke will say something he neither believes nor supports just in
    order to fit in.

What is said in the pub cannot be believed at the best of times.

But it wasn't the pub. Most of those things were said in the guy's
room, or in the car with alcohol only sometimes involved.

But it comes down to the fact that if you are one or two others are
about, and one of them says *in an environment where being racist is a
sacking offence* "what do you think about so-and-so" when so-and-so is
black, do you say "Oh I dunno, nice enough bloke I guess" or do you say
"he's a fucking nigger **** and we should shoot the lot of them"?

If you can come out with that in those circumstances and not mean it but
are just trying to fit in, I think you should look under the sofa
cushions, you have misplaced your brain.

face it. Normal human beings, male or not, don't act like that. Some
really weak losers might, but do you want such blokes in the high
    pressure environment of the police?

Hmm true - I might have gone off on a tangent here. In the situation you
described - no beer, no pub, just two guys - then I agree that a person
would have to be severely *lacking*. But I believe the same thing said
pissed up in a pub would be suspect (read horseshit).

Having watched the show I felt there were maybe two of the PC's who were not
in the same league as PC Pulling (?) and the other Ex-Shop assistant who
were perhaps portrayed a little unfairly. Though they did use the term
"Paki's" - I think they were probably led to believe the interviewer and
Pulling were good-mates and equally racist thugs. I believe they said
something neither believed in just to not make any waves or single
    themselves out for undue attention.

Not living in the UK I have no idea how inflammatory calling someone a Paki
is - I can only imagine. I have however met one Brit who took great offence
at me using the term "Pom". Is Racism a black and white issue (no pun
intended) where you either are or aren't? Or are there shades of grey. I
know amongst my friends in jest I'll refer to one as an Irish bastard - does
this make me racist? On the other hand I spent the bulk of last year working
in Angola with the nationals... Does one cancel out the other?

Re-reading your post thou I agree you definitely don't want this type of
person in a position of power. What is it they say "Power corrupts, and
    Absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Unfortunately, my impression is that it is not that uncommon.

I used to work with a bloke who (in his mid-twenties) had a few mates in the
Force and applied to join up. He was accepted and, whilst still working for
the company, boasted that he was going to Fremantle on a Saturday night with
a borrowed uniform and some of his mates to do a bit of "Boong-bashing".
That was in the early eighties. He's probably an Inspector or something now.

In Victoria the statute of limitations for traffic offences is 12
months, so assuming it's the same in WA, they'd have got off the traffic
offences involved. Hopefully the police force doesn't apply such a limit
when assessing whether the conduct of an officer is such that they're
    not suitable for the job.

More to the point, what I was getting at is that if you watch the doco
you'll understand why even a copper such as Shane saying he thought that
this was a great joke seriously undermines the confidence of the public
    in the police.

  15. Last I remember hearing about it, they'd both been ordered to show cause for
why they should stay in the police force... I sense a "due to the otherwise
exemplary record of both officers, ..." coming up.
And the rest of his and Spooky's powertripping doesn't?

Ooh, no, when Shane speaks seriously, there's no problem. Trouble is
telling when he is speaking seriously.

    In Vino Veritas.

They were borderline sociopaths and only too happy to boast about their
bullying and abuse of those with less power or influence. Given the
opportunity to do it without being caught, I've no doubt they would beat or
    kill anyone they considered inferior.

In another time and place they would have been brown-shirts, giving grief to
    juden and schwartzes.

The saddest thing is that there's no shortage of such neatly-dressed
thugs-in-waiting. The various Australian police forces must be crawling
    with them.
