More adice on value of bikes!

I've pretty much settled on buying a low mileage Ninja 6 (B1H - the new one
with upside down forks, radial mounted calipers etc.) since I rode one the
    other day and I'm smitten!

Anyway, after looking around I have found one with a Remus Titanium Exaust,
double bubble and single seat cover thingie in mint condition and has only
    done 350 miles!

He's wanting £5000 for it. This seems like a pretty good price to me... is
it? I've looked on MCN and AutoTrader websites and they all seem at least
500 more expensive and with a few more miles.

And can you give me any advice on what checks I can do to ensure its not
stolen and has no outstanding finance on it?

    Thanks for all your help!

Lloyd Coopers, experts on all thing Kwaky, advised me against fitting an
after-market can until after the bike's first service ... which a 350 mile
    bike shouldn't have had yet.

The again, I believe the engine is pretty robust (well mine managed 20,000
miles between services without going "sproing!") and you'd probably have to
be going some to shag it in that sort of distance :)
First question then - is it a UK bike or a parallel import? If the latter
you might have to actually pay for the first service, but as it's basically
an oil change and checking that the wheels haven't fallen off it shouldn't
    be too much.
    HPI check, I guess.

    Thanks for the reply!
Hadnt thought of that, do you know if they generally need to be popped on a
Dyno or anything after having something like the Remus fitted?

Dunno - if it's a new bike it will be FI, whereas mine is good ol' carbs -
    might be totally different.

OTOH, my tame mechanic reckons that, with most modern bikes, you're wasting
your time putting an end-can on - they might give a tiny increase in top end
power, but they'll almost certainly **** up something else, somewhere in the
    rev range.

But if you're serious about buying, fork out for a proper HPI check.

  8. He's probably right, unless the bike is fuel injected.

Mind you, old 1200 Bandits used to benefit immensely from a simple end
    can change.

Hypothetically speaking, just out of interest you understand, what
about the newer versions, like for example a K3, which has the older
style exhaust system (bolt-on can, the K4 has a different arrangement)
but the newer style ignition/throttle position sensor and PAIR system?

While I'm on the subject, I've found that it really doesn't like low
revs, say under 2k rpm - between 1.5k and 2k rpm it spits back into
the airbox quite a bit, and at town manoeuvring speeds even in first I
have to slip the clutch more than I'd have expected. It's due its
first service by the end of the week (600 miles/1000 km), so I'll
report it to the spannerer anyway.
