Tomorrow (friday) I pick up my latest foolish purchase on fleabay,
item 300332545695. A box of 400-4 supposedly almost complete.

My thinking is that it should contain some of the bits I want and
the rest should sell as individual items on ebay for at least
what I paid if I clean them up a bit.

If anyone wants any of the bits speak up and I will dig them out.

  2. FFS!

I saw that, gave it a long hard look, and decided it was a box of junk.

The engine's in pieces. So that's fucked.

The carbs will be gummed beyond redemption.

You can see the forks and seat are scrap.

    The frame is a rustbox.

The tinware has been sandblasted? If that includes the chrome plate,
then it is useless. Certainly the mudguards look dead.

    The clocks might be OK.

    Tank looks damaged

    Wheels are scrap. Need rebuilding.

You paid £244 for that? You're mad.

As for selling the bits you don't want - every single desirable bit I
can see (chrome,. forks, bodywork, seat - is dead. And I can't see an
    exhaust at all.

You might get a few quid for airbox, some electrical components, etc.

So it wasn't only me who thought that then. Looks like I'm still
clinging to some of the remains of my sanity.

Actually not as bad as it looks in the photos.
All of the painted metalwork from the frame down to the air filter box
has been gritblasted before the seller abandoned his restoration
project and left everything in a pile in the corner of his garage.
All it needs is a good rubdown, some etch primer and a few coats of
    black 2pack.

The tank is OK but in need of repainting. The front mudguard is good but
the rear is naturally stuffed. The carbs look good, I will give them a
good cleanout over the weekend and test them on my bike.

Pity about the engine though, the silly bugger took the head and
barrels off to make it lighter to get out of the frame then left
it lying around open. It could be rebuilt but that would require
a complete strip and rebuild to check for spiders, dead rodents,
and any possible corrosion. The clocks indicate only 36000 miles
so wear should not be a problem.

I have not yet had time to look at everything, a good sortout over
    the weekend should reveal more.

That paint pucket in picture 2 is Sigmacover Contract Emulsion.

I used to sell pallet loads of that back in the 80's.

    Ahh, jumpers for goalposts...

I didn't say it was all intact, did I?

Oh, and the Porker would be the sensible choice; I'm also looking at a
    Lotus Elise today...

So far we have a nice starter motor, made of the finest unobtainium,
2 yellow side panels (tatty) and a yellow tank with a case of measles
which have now had their rust removed by Dremel and touched in with
    etch primer.

David Silver and CMSNL both list them as discontinued.
Do you know of a supplier with a 5eekr1t stash ?

That doesn't necessarily mean that they don't have a warehouse full of
them. With David Silver, it's usually a case of phoning them as that
tends to yield stuff they don't list on their website.

  14. Oh, new ones. Yeah, they may very well be discontinued. But used ones
are two a penny. And they don't tend to break very often.
