Moral dilemas or 'do you overtake the ambulance'?

In a 30, ambulance comes up behind making the usual ambulance noises. I move
    out of the way.

Get to the NSL. Rapidly re-acquire said ambulance which is not doing more
then 80. I wish to do more then this.

This caused me a quandry as it seems completely wrong to overtake an
ambulance that's going 'flat out' in second gear.

I sat behind it until the next 30 where it buggered off.

Who would have overtaken it then? :)

  3. In heavy traffic you can make good progress by following an
ambulance as long as you watch out for those blind types that
pull over at the last minute then move into your spot 'cos they
too think that following an ambulance closely is a good idea.

Right, rub it in then, why don't you?

Just arrived back from our local A&E after the youngest had barrelled
into a bollard on his mates push bike this afternoon! Apparently he was
riding it down some steps on a bridge over a main road and when he
approached the bottom, applied the brakes and the cable snapped! He's
well miffed that the blood wagon didn't go blues and two's on his way to
casualty. :) It turns out that both bones are broken in his forearm
close to the wrist joint and an operation is scheduled for 8:30 tonight
(providing nothing more deserving comes in).

At 11 years old he has now broken both legs, one arm, had two head
injuries requiring stiches/staples, ripped the flesh on his groin and
lost the tip of one finger (all in separate incidents!) I'm sure there
are other lesser injuries that have required a visit to A&E but I can't
recall them at the moment. Bloody kids, who'd have 'em?

Just time to grab something to eat before I swop shifts with SWMBO at
    the hospital.

    Cheers!

    I would (and have).

In the past I have justified it by amateurish attempts to warn drivers
up-stream (imitating police car's flashing headlamps) and once even blocked
a junction preventing a long queue of mums (collecting kids from a school)
from emerging. Great fun - although admittedly a bit wanky/do-gooder-ish.

Did that yesterday. Doing 60 on the A6, NSL. Pondered briefly, thought
"what the hell" and fucked off into the distance.

Ambulance crews all think I'm mad - I know them from work.

Well, I fancy he's definitely heading in that (this?) direction. I can't
wheel the thing out without him piping up "Can I come too?" With his
record thus far, I think his penchant for two wheeled transport is
bloody scary, to say the least.
Everything's fine thanks. Came out of theatre at 9:45 and promptly threw
up (anaesthetic probably although he claims it was the McDonalds he had
for lunch!) SWMBO is now doing the night shift so it's an empty bed for
    me. :-D

    Cheers!

  8. Only if I thought I wouldn't impede it's progress by binning it
    somewhere on it's route.

My concern was on a few points ...

    1) One service might talk to another service IYSWIM, especially if they've
    just attended/attending a bike misadventure.
    2) I'd probably fall off about three roundabouts up and feel dreadfully
    embarressed.
    3) I'd get in the way again as soon as we got back into a signed limit.

In traffic not me. Open road is a different matter and for the

Although I would add that the good progress is to be made only at the
expense of special sort of attention to the surrounding traffic. In
general it is at a much reduced effort than the norm for roads devoid of
    convenient ambulances.

Fire engines: always in front as I am quicker even if I am just happy to
    chug.

Plod: Will never take me alive.

Bomb Squad: A long way behind. You never know if they are coming or
going so I reckon it is best to keep them in sight but from a distance.

They were probably wiping the tears from their eyes through laughter

We believe he secretly wants to be a doctor. Why else would we keep
having to go back to the same place on a regular basis if not to get
    himself some work experience?
