It's revolting bikers time in central London again. 11th May 2009

    http://www.notobikeparkingfees.com/events/

Arrive Ace Cafe: 4pm Leave: 5pm
And/or Park in Whitehall Place, Assemble Trafalgar Sq: 5:45pm-6:15pm
Start ride-out: 6:30pm Finish & refreshments at Piccadilly Circus: 9pm

So if you commute into London, bring the bike in on Monday and join in.

    Or avoid the area completely.

I think what annoys me most about issues such as identity cards,
42-day detention, wars in Afghanistan and Palestine, additional
airport runways, MPs expenses and so on is not how important they are
    - it's the number of mind-numbingly stupid twats that think what
really matters is whether or not they have to pay to park their bikes.

    You grumpy old pensioner.

    Get back to work !

If the boys want to play out on their bikes, that's fine.

I agree though, in the big scheme of things, there's other things that
I would prefer the populace to rise up over.

Not at all. I do appear to have momentarily gone OTT.
I guess it's just me, but there's a touch of the JackH about the way
they just seem to go on and on about it.

Perhaps when you're retired Fridays are no longer as magical. I
wouldn't have posted this on a Sunday!

But aren't you part of 'the populace', get some action going. ;-)

The point is everyone has their gripes, the thing that pushes them
over the edge and we are lucky in this country in that we can make
ourselves heard (no matter how bizarre the cause seems to others) and
it often make a difference (right or wrong etc).

The alternative is the apathy that seems to have beset us more than
many other nations (nations where to protest as they have in London
would find them hacked to death with a machete or run over with a
    tank).

Personally I don't care too much about parking charges in Westminster
or anywhere for that matter but then I don't *have* to park in such
places and park very regularly. Once we all get charged for parking
outside our own houses I bit a few more might join the rally?

p.s. You can see why non supermarkets aren't getting the footfall they
once did, now you can't park anywhere near them for free and the
parking and fuel charges are equal to the delivery charge.

I think that there is a little more to this than meets the eye. I find
particularly disturbing that certain Westminster Councillors are quite
seriously advancing the argument that motor-cycles, being as everyone
knows the most polluting vehicles in existence, don't belong on the
streets of Central London, as a justification for developing various
strategies to make it simply too difficult for motorcyclists.

Of course, those that never actually ride in Central London may well
feel that there are no consequences arising from what is going on now
that will ever impact them. Who can say if they are correct?

No, I believe a little civil unrest is good. Look at the French, the
government there is mindful that unpopular / ridiculous legislation is
likely to get the ports and roads blockaded.

It would be useful for our own government to be similarly mindful.

But it isn't, the last 2 decent riots I saw were the poll tax one and
    the fuel duty one.

I hate to see us rolling over like sheep to be tickled by the corrupt
    bastards in power.

I should have downloaded my usenet backlog this evening instead of this
morning, I could have taken the tube from the Tower back to hotel instead
of getting stuck in a bus. Sigh. Just my luck, first time this century
I visit London and I land squarely in a bike demonstration. :)

Still, nice to see so many bikes. ;-)
