    ?(?¿?)? BORG says...
It's just shown a couple of ukrmers to be away from their normal homes.
It's pretty accurate on those I know to be where they should be too.

    Didn't work properly.

I put two mobile numbers in whose locations I know, and they both came up to
be in Wisbech, where I know they aren't.

Makes me wonder if it's not just phishing for numbers to spam ...

I wonder where the network operators stand on making this info available
against the wishes of the individual. Data protection act issue?

Might be the provider, both the numbers I tried are O2 ...I'll try a couple
    more.

  7. It looks up the mobile system (MS) msisdn (the number of your mobile)
number on the relevent HLR[1] (home location register) or VLR (visitors
location register) to see what BSC[2] (base station controller) your MS is
    using.

[1] A big computer with a database that is updated with you home location,
IE where you are at the moment so it knows which transmitter to send the
    phone signal to.

[2] Which transmitter your phone is talking to.

Anyway it didn't work for Orange. Obviously no roaming agreement with them.

  10. well it failed to find mine - an orange number that's sitting outside
the UK. It also failed to find an ex-Orange number, that's been ported
to voda, and is sat in the UK.

    So, a bit shit really.

I may be paranoid, but it may be being used as a hone-trap to capture
peoples mobile numbers. I tested it on my work phone but not my
    personal one.

And it's working here, now, with XP and ie. Flaky connection maybe.

Still, glad I didn't use my own numbers, 'just in case'. ;)

  19. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Dave amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
    It found mine.
Quite. I wish I'd known about this a while back.

It failed to find an Orange number sat next to me; a Vodaphone number
upstairs and a T-Mobile number "wherever my daughter is".
