Molly was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Forgot - I quite like my Motorola V500 flip phone. Quad band, works
fine in the US if you've got GSM coverage, does what it says on the
tin. Vastly overspecced for my needs but I don't care.

O2. I used to be with them, but swapped after 6 incidents in one year.
Two of them left me with increasing difficulty in actually making any
calls with them and therefore spending money. Support staff
imbecilic[1], shop network as useful as a chocolate teapot[2].
Orange have been great - good coverage, nice offers for customers
(orange wednesdays is very useful), and they've just given me a very
nice package to keep me on, so I'm happy.

[1] rang up to ask a few questions, addressed me by surname three times
in 30 seconds. First security question - "What's your surname?"
[2] Trying to get a phone repaired proved impossible, as they lost my
contract and couldn't provide a copy.

Orange will do a selection of phones for free with a package of 180
minutes and 250 texts for 25 notes a month.

I'd recommend them, been with them 5 years and never had a problem.

I've just got a Nokia 6230, seems ok, does lots of exciting things i'll
never use, but i obviously need :)
I used to be on Orange, they seemed OK, i was only PAYG though, so never
really had much dealing with them themselves.
I use T-Mobile now, and for the last 2 years, just signed to 3rd 12 month
contract, and i'm very happy with them. The customer service is excellent,
they've never fucked me about or fucked my account up in anyway, its been
    plain sailing.
I get 150 mins anytime anynetwork, and 100 texts for £20 a month. Got this
deal last year for renewing, and only got a shite phone for free, 3510i,
this year left contract the same and got the flashy phone for free.
    Do it, T-mobile, YKIMS ;)

Certainly best coverage but has that really, really wanky system of call
back or text back when you've got an answering machine message.

What's wrong with the little tape spool icon?

I'm thinking of going over to Orange (from T-Mobile) especially with
their 400 min any time any network + 400 offpeak orange and landlines and
3Mb data for £54 p/m. That's to get the rather jolly nice SPV C500
    handset that Simian showed me.

You can get it for a lot less than that if you shop around. e2save
(eshop branch of CPW) are usually the best - LG8120 is now free with 12
    month 1/2 price line rental - £15 / month with 500 X-net mins and 100
    texts.

Coverage is excellent mainly due to '3' falling back to O2 when there's
    no 3G coverage.

Customer Services are wank - couldn't get through to enable roaming last
Friday, which was a PITA, but it's my own fault for not doing it
    earlier.

I wouldn't - not since the change to 18 month contracts or a higher
monthly charge if you only want 12.

They gave me the 18 month price on 12 month contract this year the guy
reckoned :) Of course, he could've just been talking arse to get me to sign
    up...

  14. What are you supposed to do? Phone up in the afternoon, get put on hold
and end up going to sleep with it on the speakerphone in the hope you'll
wake up when it gets answered by the fact that the cheesy on hold music
    changes?

That's what pisses me off. I don't *do* technical support very often; I
can fix most problems myself but when I do need assistance, it's nice to
know there's someone there who can help. I'd rather pay a bit extra and
be safe in the knowledge that SWK can help instead of sending me round a
load of settings I could do myself (if only they had the settings on
their website). I mean, I've got a XDAII, an o2 branded phone, but the
settings for GPRS aren't on their site - not that that's an issue, but
ffs, it's an o2 branded phone! I asked about a ROM upgrade because the
latest o2 fixes the bluetooth stack and a third party download would
invalidate the warranty - 40 minutes later and being transferred from
one clueless **** to another, I'm still no nearer getting my phone to
    send bluetooth beams.

True, but I did leave it until the last minute giving me no chance to
    try another time.

I'd totally forgotten about the networks blocking roaming unless you
phone them - been used to it 'just working' as I've had it activated on
my T-Mob account for so long.

Dependant on what package you go for[1] surely the best network is the one
with the best reception in the areas you use the phone most. Having 1000
minutes a month free is useless if there is no reception. My local has
zero reception for anything other than Orange which has full signal even
in the sodding cellar due to the mast[2] being 400 or so yards away.

I've been happy with Orange for over 8 years now but YMMV.

[1] As long as the minutes are X network. Otherwise get the same network
as the people you ring most to keep the costs down.

[2] Actually one of those pretend tree type things.
