in all seriousness, at least MJ is a genuine celebrity, with a genuine
    "star quality" aura.

Compare and contrast with fucking "Celebrity Love Island", for example.

I'll change the clock on my 'pooter and sue WUN for plagiarism.

True enough. And, he is/was genuinely talented too, imo.
heh. I've not seen any of it, and from what has leaked into my
consciousness from other sources, I suspect I've never heard of any of
    the "celebrities"

<checks google> Ok, I was wrong - I've heard of Abi Titmuss on here,
Rebecca Loos cos she was all over the media a year ago, and Jayne
Middlemiss cos...er, dunno. But the others - no idea.

Oooh, I beat you by one. I have heard the name of Ms. Loos, but have
no idea where/why, but the last one is new to me.

You are the One True Ace.
I think she sucked David Beckhams cock, or something. Beckham is a
    footballer, apparently.
    Well done.

When do we get to go on Grumpy Old Men?

*ding* so, now you're getting why there's such a fuss.
I caught some of it by accident yesterday[1] and it really beggars
belief that the program was made. Who really wants to see d-list
celebrities trying to get off with each other, but no actual sex?

[1] was watching a DVD[2], and when it finished, the TV flicked back to
    terrestrial. Honest.
[2] re-watching "Band of Brothers" - each time I watch it my respect
for the people who fought in WWII grows.

Weeeellll, up to a point, Lord Copper. While I acknowledge his talent
    as a musician, I really don't give a monkey's whether he buggers
alsatians for fun in the privacy of his own ranch. And I don't really
    see why anyone else does.
It must be a youth thing.
Y'know, I've never seen any of that. Fancy lending me the DVD? Is is
    the whole series?

    <thread hijack>

I'm finding my TV watching habits have changed enormously now I've got
my PVR working properly (with pukka IR blasting channel changing and
everything). I just browse through the schedules and think "I'll have
that, that and *that", and forget about it, and the next time I fancy
relaxing in front of the telly I've got a whole choice of stuff that I
know I'm at least a bit interested in.

Next - to rip the series of "Soul Deep" [1] to DVD for posterity.

[1] Utterly, utterly brilliant series on black popular music, just
    finished.

    What instrument does he play?

    I don't either.

Snot the Alsatians is it, it is the suggestion of kiddie fiddling. An
issue for us parent types that one is and a very serious one at that.

Had it been mine to lend, surely. However, it's borrowed from a
    cow-worker of Angie's, so I don't feel free to re-lend it, I'm afraid.
But yes, what I've currently got is a box-set of the entire 10-episode
series, plus the "real documentary" bit interviewing the guys left
alive at the time the series was made. It's jolly good.
oh, which one did you get in the end? I'm hopefully - finally, at long,
long last - getting my RF wireless keyboard/trackball combo next month,
and will be setting mine up permanently.

I was finding the same, although still watching a reasonable amount of TV at
the appointed, scheduled time (e.g. Desperate Housewives)

Now I'm starting to not-be-arsed scrolling through the on-screen guide to
find out what's worth recording - I think I need to devise another system to
    do that for me ...

    Yup.

I do like his early music, don't recon that much of his later stuff. I
always believed that this was about the families of the kids he
befriended [1] seeing a huge opportunity to blackmail/sue him, and I'm
happy they've been exposed as the trash they are.

Its a pity that even if he bothers suing the families for, I don't
know, defamation of character or something, he'd get nothing cause
    they're skint.

Ah well, some bloke on TV said it'd take a good image agent about 9
months to rebuild him into a music star again. Next album, stat!

I'm not using mine properly at the moment, for semi-non-technical
    reasons[1].

[1] need to work out[2] how to have fully functioning always-logged-on
PC sitting in the living room and not have 16-year-old stepson **** it
    up looking for porn.
[2] wireless keyboard in locked-cupboard is the current plan.

Tell him there's no porn on it? Or is he using it to furtively surf the net
    ....

How's it working out for noise and heat, BTW? I stuck my (shop-bought) PVR
in a cupboard as part of the recently-finished flat-remodelling, and it's
doing OK, but getting a bit on the warm side. I'd imagine an Athlon-powered
thing would get considerably hotter, but then it's got a proper fan

I'm not so bothered about the pron - it's all the associated viruses,
key-loggers, spy-ware etc. that goes with it.
