mitivac brake bleeder about £40 from gericke

    can anyone recommend this or any other device for DIY brake bleeding on a
    simple bike like the CB500 ?

    Works very well. It helps to put some heavy duty grease on the bleed nipple
    threads to stop air being drawn in past the threads.

    Does it *ever*.

    I was wondering just how much air was in the system until the little
    light bulb of realisation clicked on.

    Yes, especially when said threads have been loosened and you are appying
    suction.
