Why did BL/Rover/BMW get rid of the original ? It was a marvelous car.
Easy to work on , cheap to buy and drive. What a loss to the younger
    generation.

They are. Used to have a 1275GT, me. Until the Mini specialist up the
road suggested it might be time to find a new home for the battery[1].

[1] Yes, he actually put it that way.

  5. My Mum's Clubman estate was driven out to Iran. Driven to Italy, boat
across to Tripoli (Lebanon), overland from there.

192.com helpfully suggests that there are, in fact, 24 Munters on the
    2003 electoral register.

  9. Yup. I used to do loads of work on minis. First job was always take the
    bonnet off (takes 2 minutes).

Does this tell us that only good-looking people can vote?

That long, mine were usually held in at the windscreen end by tucking the
back edges of the bonnet under welded in triangles over the corners and a
couple of bonnet pins up front. Makes getting the bonnet off a 2 second
    job.

  12. Hence the cardboard flap to keep it off the spark plugs.

    Honestly. Bloody lawnmower engineering.

Mine was at 50Mph, on a bend.
It was funny at the time, the car felt like it had a flat as we entered
the bend. Then my friend saw the wheel drop on his side. A few seconds
later we exited the bend and the front end dropped, the wheel went past us
and I let the car slow itself down (I didn't think brakes would have ben a
good idea). The sparks were excellent.

  15. And any other car builder would have had the cylinder head mounted with
the spark plugs pointing *rearwards*, instead of forwards, right where
all the rain would come through the grille.
