  3. (William Grainger) burbled:
Brace is a fairly common synonym for pair. A collective noun for
Goldwings may be an ostentation, or an embarassment.

I followed a BMW F650 yesterday on the way to Holmfirth. We didnt go faster
than 40mph on the empty country lanes. I didn't want to over take him on my
little 125 [1] He did have a pillion on the back [2] I followed him and
watched how he took the corners [3]

[1] In case he beats me up for overtaking on a learner bike.
[2] She had a nice arse and looked youngish but its hard to tell in leather.
[3] He used the brakes much less than me

I am getting worried about my level of aggression when filtering tbh
... when you're on a GPZ but you wind up going past a bike instructor
(who isn't giving a lesson) you have to start worrying ...

Not always the case. I must confess to enjoying being first 'off the
line' when out and about in the town on ugly ES Trophy. Eat my fumes....

I also enjoy thrapping the old East German bus within an inch of its life
keeping up with more modern tackle, on B roads.

This can only be done against slower modern tackle, I suspect they don't
know I'm there, and is nearly always very *very* scary.

    Why?

TBH, not all instructors can *ride* but they can teach.

  9. Glitter, faux, costume; or, for those owners afflicted with Bronco

That's true I suppose! But I think I probably ought to tone down the
diving in and out of gaps a little; "hmm, my jacket didn't used to
have blue elbows ... wait, that Transit was blue ... ahhhhh"

Still, was impressed that I managed to intimidate a Golf coming the
other way into pulling over for me :)

I disagree. My best guess on why there should be such a (to me)
noticable change in riding from previous years is if the comics[1] so
beloved of the clueless have been publishing articles influencing the
riding of the easily influenced in this way. I can imagine (but have
no evidence) that "statistics" could be made to show that a majority of
accidents happen when bikes filter / overtake and that therefore the
best way to improve your riding safety is to be more conservative in
    these regards.

All supposition, but something's got to be causing this rash of slow
    coaches.

  14. The only reason I can think of, if you're not in company with the
other bike and it's being driven slowly. The lowish speed makes the
arse appreciation all the more enjoyable.

    [snip stuff about filtering]

As a newbie, oive bin wunderin' 'bout this filterin' lark. As I am getting
more confident about the width of the bike and my judgement of speed,
distance etc. I find I am happy to take lane 1a when coming up to lights,
overtake etc. However, (and this may seem daft (but remember I am a
newbie)) I'm still not happy about going down the outside of a line of
stationary traffic, I mean, what if no bastard lets you pull in again and
you're stuck, effectively on the other side of the road with oncoming
    traffic?

As for overtaking and being overtaken I love to play a bit of reverse
psychology. 50% of my daily commute I ride at full throttle (now don't
laugh ... at about 95mph) and I've been amazed at the number of cage drivers
who seem to want to race. You go past them in the overtaking lane and then
they pull out and follow you and seem determined that you are not going to
get away from them. I'm not interested in racing anyone so I will then
deliberately throttle back pull into the slow lane let them past. I wonder
    if they feel really deflated?

Around here you can partly blame the police. I'm not a fast rider (Divvy
900/ER5/XT600) but do try to make reasonable progress. However, in Mid Wales
there are so many speed traps I fear to use full hole. e.g. I pulled out to
go past an old Volvo, he was at 55 and to clear him quickly I probably went
up to a bit over 70. I knew the road, knew that it was a good overtaking
spot if I went a bit over the limit. I then saw the white van and stuffed
the brakes on to get down below 65 or so before fast electronic bits could
get me. I think that hard braking was probably more dangerous than a bit of
speeding (but obviously not as safe as staying behind the Volvo).

Time is running out on us.

    Talking about eggs.
Yesterday Lilian asked me to pick up some eggs from the local store.
They're exceptionally large and tasty. I would normally forget but I
remembered and went down the store and bought a dozen.

Now, Lilian naturally assumed that I would forget and when she was out
she also bought a dozen eggs.
