Question, would there be any legal reasons why a mini-moto could not be
converted to a day bike or lights fitted as a UK road legal bike?

    49cc two stroke petrol engine
    · manual start system
    · Air cooled
    · Automatic clutch
    · No suspension system
    · front and rear disc brakes
    · Side stand
    · Under seat exhaust system
    1035mm length, 500mm width, 585mm high

  2. Construction & Use regs.

Not insurmountable, but amazingly difficult to make a minimoto comply.

Indicators and lights have to be a certain height, distance, width,
    size, EU approved, etc etc.

You would never get road legal, type approved tyres for it?

As Tog says - you would have to have all the lights etc on stalks to
get them the correct height and spacing etc - it would be completely
    impractical to do

Also, they are silly. There is a huge variety of proper motorbikes
    available; buy one of them.

It has been done, quite a few years ago by a guy in Southport. Totally
    road legal.

I thought gag bikes were dodgy enough, height wise.

I thought so too, but it made the papers around here. I did keep a
copy but threw it out when we moved house.

    In
Day use only? AFAIK you only have to have a working horn <snigger> for a
    daytime MOT?

Brake lights, indicators (remeber we're talking C&U, not just MOT).

  12. Don't need indicators on a bike registered before 1 April 1986.

A lad round here had a YSR50 on the road... did over 50 it did... if your
knees could take being bent like that, for long enough.

Well, yes. But this is a mini-moto, which is inherently unregistered. So
it'd need indicators when you tried to register it, no?

    Nigel Eaton says...
There's a company in Bedford selling midi-motos, slighty bigger than a
mini-moto. These bikes come with lights, indicators and a 50cc engine
with electric start. I'd doubt you could make one of those road legal
    cheaply.

I looked into making a mini-moto road legal. Several people from several
sources said that the DVLA won't issue a V5 for a mini-moto any more. I
don't know if this is the official answer from the DVLA though.
