Mini - helicoil help

The bolts (M6, I believe) which attach the exhaust to the cylinder head on
the TS are causing a problem, mainly 'cos the threads in the head are
fucked. I have purchased new, genuine Suzuki replacement bolts, but there
is not a lot of grip.

We are considering a spot of head / barrel / piston off maintenance, but as
this exceeds our previous fettling experience I wish to ask the following:

Is it possible to restore the damaged threads with helicoils (and can some
kind soul perform this task for us)
If the cylinder seems okay, is it possible / worth replacing the piston
rings, or would a rebore / hone plus new piston and rings be required.
If we are able to re-use the existing piston etc, is it de rigeur to replace
the big and little end bearings.
Would carbon reeds give a noticeable performance improvement.

    TIA

Yes - a task worth doing.
I suspect that I am too far away and too lazy...
Why do you think it's needed? Usually you would just buy a new barrel
and piston - often surprisingly cheap.

Why bother? It's a TS50. If you want more go fit a TS125.

Heh, I can empathise with that
Dunno really, I reckon it's never been done to it before. Hadn't thought of
a new barrel, hmm, thanks for that.

  7. If Bedford is close enough, I can do M6 helicoils for you.
Altenatively go to your local good tool supplier and buy an M6
helicoil or recoil set. About £30. Strangely enough about what it will
cost you to ride to me, get it done, and ride back.
But, the former method lets you do it again and again and again for
    virtually free.

I think you are wrong, it seems to be a much harder material, with a strange
scent of Mature Cheddar to it.

Why should we trust you, who's just an everyday working engineer,
instead of someone whose experience and openness of mind can be
plainly seen just from their posting name?
