Went to see it on Boxing day with wife and kids (neither of which had
    ever heard of Sherlock Holmes).

We all enjoyed it, better than I thought it would be, thought the
Holmes character was portrayed well, a nice mix of genius and madness
    it seemed.
A lot were on about how the Watson character was more like in the
books, all I noticed tbh was that he wasn't a bumbling idiot like in
the 70's films which was good enough for me.

Can't believe I didn't suss who the mysterious figure in the coach was
though until the end of the film!

One other thing I did notice during the film and, when mentioned to
SWMBO twigged it straight away, was the similarity of Holmes and
Watsons' relationship to House and Wilson's from House M.D.

Overall, I enjoyed it, very watchable and to be fair I like Robert
Downey Jr, not sure why, but I just think he brings something to a
character that I would find many wouldn't.

The plot was ludicrous, the action sequences entirely superfluous, the
love interest preposterous and Holmes's wackiness just grating.

Don't get me wrong, I also found it better than I thought it would be,
but I thought it would be complete excrement so the fact it was merely
    shite was a surprise.

The most heavy-handed and obvious set up for a sequel I've seen in somme
    time.

Do House and Wilson desperately want to **** each other as well then?

It's always a battle setting up for a sequel.

Surely though we (the audience) aren't that stupid that we don't know
that pretty much the whole premise of Holmes is that he solves murders
/ mysteries etc etc? ie there's always another round the corner.

Pretty much all films are inherently "sequelisations" other than the
drama type stuff, ie The Piano, The Duchess, Elizabeth The Golden Age
    etc.

Mind you I don't think there were originally plans for the Matrix to
have sequels but thought that was well done.

  10. What planet are they from?
I thought it was really quite obvious - or at least, obvious to anyone
who's seen or read any Holmes stuff.

  11. Did you see who won the Golden Globe for "Best performance by an actor
in a motion picture - Comedy or Musical" ?

I thought it was great, so long I ignored all the "independent man
learns a lesson about life from a woman" nonsense.

Look at it as a road movie, albeit a road 30,000 feet high, and it
delivered in spades. It almost made business travel look appealing,
    which is quite a feat.

I should hope so - she needs at least *one* redeeming feature.

I'm not clicking that link at work - I suspect it's blocked anyway.

However, a further google does seem to show that she is more to my
    taste, yes.

Quite. If you google her name, the first link (in News Results)
    mentions the Golden Globes.
