Mind the Gap ! A short and boring quiz.

Went out with a mate for a bit of a test ride recently, after
fully fettling my CX Eurosport rear suspension (1, 2)

After a quick 'round the block ride' We headed to Box Hill.

I started getting a bad misfire, which was first encountered on
overtaking
a couple of cars, typically.

It got no better on returning from the Hill, and, on the A3, the engine
completely cut out - almost getting me chewed up by several cars.

20 mins later I am still off to the side of the road, Without any
tools, a dead mobile (why ffs now !) when a courier stopped to help.

He got my bike working (on one cylinder) by swapping the coil
connections over (3) I thanked him, he left an I limped the few miles
home.

On removing the lhs plug I found the gap completely closed up. Hmm, I
open the gap
to abou 25thou, and went for a short ride. Fine

Two days later on a longer ride, back to one cylinder.

So, was the fault caused by:


1. A large lump of carbon hitting the insulator tip ?

2. The plug being incorrectly manufactured in the first place ?

3. The piston hitting the plug.

4. The spark plug turning into a banana ?



1. Spent £80 on bearings and sleeves alone.
2. After removal of the swing arm, my mate asked " how the ****
did you ride it in that state !
3. I don't know why this should have worked.
