Migraine relief

Yesterday's technique to get rid of the last of my migraine [1] didn't
seem to work, so any suggestions that will really work?

Looking on the web suggests I ought to avoid coffee, chocolate, red
    wine, cheese and menstruating.

But there's nothing that suggests that going to EOSM and having a few
    beers isn't a good idea :)

    Best I do that then!

[1] drink expressos through the day, skip tea as I wasn't feeling great
substituting half a box of Thornton's chocolate instead, then lots of
red wine [2] followed by a couple of glasses of port, pain aux chocolat
as I was feeling peckish then some cheese and biscuits as it would be
rude not to as the port was open.
[2] full marks to Champ for sitting and watching me drink it; he didn't
even look too worried when I came at him [3] with a strap on.
    [3] so to speak

I found that Feverfew tablets taken regulalry reduced all of frequency,
severity and duration of my attacks. Having lost weight helped as well.

Menstruating is mainly to do with cunts and bleeding: stay out of fights in
    bars.

Catman emerged from their own little world to say
Losing weight will probably reduce your blood pressure which IME is
    significant.

I used to get bad headaches which I attributed to irregular sleep patterns
associated with shift work. However, after diagnosis and treatment of
hypertension I rarely get such severe headaches. Hangovers last hours
    rather than days now.

My bp was monitored over a 3 month period before my GP decided that
medication was appropriate. To minimise inconvenience I got my then
employer's nurse to take a weekly reading and present a chart to the GP.
Now you can do it yourself as automated bp checkers are avaialble from £15.

Almost certainly. I've found feverfew to be effective for about 15 years,
    though.
Can't remember my last hangover TBH
Got one. I know my BP is low-normal. Gave up measuring it regularly a while
    back.

Gyp scribbled on the back of a napkin:
If it's a real migraine and not "just" some bad headache then the most
important thing you need to find out is what triggers them.
Yes, all those and tons more. Problem with migraines is that they can
be triggered by a whole lot of different causes (I used to get mine
when changing sleeping patterns around, plus on rapid changes of
altitude). The recommended way to find out what the trigger is is to
keep a "migraine diary", the idea being that this allows you to track
the trigger over time based on what you did when it struck.

Only then can you actually do something about it.

Oh, and you may want to see your GP regarding some proper migraine
    medication...

In between your levity I suspect that you may really suffer. And by my
statement then know I have for years. If you are taking the piss you
won't get my help.I'm not a,"Touchy-Feely" type of guy.

However I do have a control secret for,"Real" Migraine Sufferers and
it doesn't involve tablets, drugs or miracle cures and is so easy you
won't believe. This I will not impart over an open usenet group.
    This is,"NOT" a cure but a,"Control".

If you think I'm full-of-shit.No probs.
    If not

  9. Rubbish. If you had a reliable method of migraine control you would be
    as rich as Croesus.

The fact that you are not indicates:

    a) You don't have anything that can reliably control migraines
    b) It's a scam
    c) It's a scam
    d) It's a scam

Having suffered from migraines for about 15 years I have seen most
things and tried a fair few of them. Very few of them work - especially
the ones that "don't involve tablets".

  10. Tablets, dark rooms and avoiding migraine triggers comes into it
    somewhere.

Oh - and not having parents that both suffered from them would help
too. Another good reason for me not to breed.

What's a "tude"? And why would you not publish your "secret"? Unless it
begins "First catch your twelve year-old"?
I think I can confidently predict one won't be forthcoming.

FWIW, I had exactly the same thought as Phil[1], but couldn't (then) be
    arsed to say so.

[1] Which is worrying in and of itself.
