Thanks for the invite, it sounds fun. I've joined the group and although
I'm up here in Shropshire I just may come along one day.

Something I know I have heard a number of times, possibly from
reliable sources, is that you're supposed to down rate the tyre speed
rating one notch when fitting a tube inside a tubeless one.

That would for example make a V rated ("more than 210 km/h")
tubeless good for "less than 210 km/h" (H rating).

The reason is just what you say, it will run hotter.

The manufacturer's list of recommendations will not include new - and
    possibily better - tyres.

You'd only have problems if you fitted an inappropriate tyre and failure
of that tyre contributed to an accident. If you're worried, you could
stick to tyres recommneded by tyre manufacturers. That way you should be
safe from insurance concerns but will be able to use more modern tyres.

It's worth noting that manufacturers' recommendations may not be worth too
much: the Michellin's (I forget the model) recommended by Triumph for many
years are widely regarded as amongst the worst fitments available for the
    Tiger. (Although opinion does vary.)

Regarding the Tourance: they are very highly regarded for the big
    trail-bikes.

In my own experience, they give decent grip and quite good longevity. I
find that the Brdigestone Trailwings are actually better on the road, but
don't last as long, (6000 vs 9000 miles). The Tourances aren't *much*
worse than the Trailwings so they're a good choice if you're covering a
lot of miles or watching the pennies.

I believe you can now get BT020's for 19inch rims. You might like to
check those out, although they won't be recommnded by Suzuki.

Michelin T66 are the tyres you refer too. I found them excellent on a Honda
NX650 Dominator. My guess is that they are not suited to much heavier bikes
    like the Tiger & BMW.

Michelin have replaced the T66 with Anakees which have received favourable
    reports from some GS riders.

    Highly recommended for a 1150GS and I don't see why it wouldn't suit a
V-Strom. The only other one worth considering is the BT020 but only if you
never take it off road and aren't too bothered about the shorter life.

I suspect that's correct: I've seen them get good reports for a number of
    smaller bikes.
The Tiger riders who have tried them seem happy with them so far. I'll
have to consider them next time, although I do really like the
Bridgestones. (I've actually got Tourances fitted at the moment, because
with Manx GP and a French holiday last summer I wasn't confident that
Trailwings would last the distance and I didn't want to have to worry
about running out of rubber in La Rochelle.)
