I have a couple of alloy engine cases I want to finish with a sandcast
    look.
What's the best way of doing it - shotblasting to roughen the surface
    up?

Not shot, but sand or bead.

Bead gives a fairly smooth, matt finish.

I've got a cabinet if you want to pop over and try. WUN's got one too.

ps, was that you on the M4 heading into London (former bus lane section)
    around 9am yesterday?

I thought I recognised the bike, it was just near the last 60mph speed
    camera.
