Met Police Merger

"Sir Ian said rail stations and the underground were of public concern
London could have a single unified police force by the time it stages
the 2012 Olympic Games, the Metropolitan Police (Met) Commissioner has
    said."

Why is it that every time I read anything or hear anything put forward
by Sir Ian Blair that I completely distrust the motivation behind it?
    Anyone else agree?

He has to be the worst head of Met we have had in a very long time.

  5. You think? Our MD has a rather different view - err so I'm told.

I just get a really horrible sense that he has got his own massive
agenda. He is exploiting the fact that Ken L and Tony B are both
enraptured by the police and will do anything for the police and also
using the terrorist bombs to massively extend police powers.

The whole approach is distasteful and unnerving. Every time he seemingly
wins something another set of demands emerge. At this rate we'll all be
locked up in our homes to protect the police.
Oh well you can't have everything in life can you?
You think he reads this group - bwahahahahahaha.
I happened to go past Hendon Police Training Centre today on a train.
There was a group of trainee police motorcyclists and one poor chap had
just binned his Pan and was busy extracting himself from underneath it.
Fair made me smile that did.

Remember the photo a few years back of the copper and bike in the cement at
some road works in London? - wish I'd seen that for real. Made oi larf it
    did.

  8. I had two cameras with me. Unfortunately they were switched off in my
bag and I had no advance warning. You go through a short tunnel [1] and
then emerge beside the training centre.

The plods also seemed to be being trained on how to drive police vans
into curbs while almost running over their colleagues and also how to
look like plonkers on pedal cycles. All very entertaining - they almost
    seemed human.

[1] this is on the Northern Line btw.

Oh, sure, he'd carry a camera phone, but wouldn't have it switched on.

If you really want to see it, just ride the Northern Line past Colindale during
daylight hours. The Bike training happens just about every day of the week. [1]
The "Back Road" up at Hendon Training School is where the proto Police bikers
learn to control the bikes at *extremely* slow speeds. Involves going round
the "wobble course". It's a bugger, and no mistake. You may even spot them
riding along standing on and off the seat on one leg and saluting. Much fun to
be had riding alongside a class full of recruits whilst stood up on the bikes
with arms swinging in time to their marching <G>.

Friday afternoon is the day of the wobble course exam. Anyone dropping it or
touching a cone then fails and is off the rest of the course. Bit nerve
    wracking, tbh.

The entire first week of the (3 week) bike course is spent there[2], best part
of 7 hours per day doing the slow control thing. Frequent dropping of the bikes
is normal behaviour, even for the very experienced riders. As an aside, you
(very quickly) learn the art of picking up a fully loaded Pan or R1150RT. With
all the extra fittings for radios, lights and sirens they aren't half heavy!

ISTR a programme on the telly a while back with Chris Barrie and some motoring
journos being invited up to the riding school to try to get round the wobble
course. They all binned it <G>.

Look beyond the back road over to the fields and you'll see the dear little boys
and girls on the 2 day pedal cycling course flying either round the running
track or up and down the various steps. Keep looking over towards the main
buildings with the clock tower. Just to the left of them are the 2 skid pans..
quite a hoot watching the cars spinning round on that.

Oh, and the bloke wot rode his bike into the cement was from the City of London
Police. Total prat. He'd ignored the signs, then threw a hissy fit at the
workers who, not surprisingly, left him to it. [3] His colleagues found it
equally hilarious, and were in danger of being hit by the teddies flying from
    his locker room.

    [1] Except Thursday
[2] Thursday is "Off Road" day on the dirt bikes at Aldershot camp
[3] They had tried to help, initially. He p'd them off rather badly after that.
