Nice - one for the hot pies, one for the cold beer. Sounds perfect,
    where can I get one?

I could have been an 850, my surprise was that it was an unfaired bike
    - this was on the Farringdon road, in the company of a more regular
    Pan Euro-riding cop.
    that's a bite, right?

Having just got back in to work, I've found that the new contractors
have taken a lot of the bikes in for a service at the same time,
leaving the generally unridden, unloved and unfaired ones alone. Less
choice at each unit has caused a few unfaired ones to be the final
frontier, as it were. Nice to see a Pan still out there. The Met
finance gurus, in all their wisdom, decided that the bike fleet had to
be reduced a bit. Guess which bikes they've started to send for
disposal, as they figure they'll sell easier and for more money? Yup,
not the sodding unfaired things, oh no. The beloved Pans are going.
Oh well, had one out all day today, and even in the wet it was
blinking lovely to be out again. So happy was I to be actually
getting paid for it, that I only got a bit shouty at the chap who had
rather a flexible view of the 50mph limit right in front of me, and
for a couple of miles. No ticket in sight 'cos, to be fair, he was
actually riding quite tidily. Could have used a bit more rear
observation, though! I don't think he's likely to recover quickly
from the shock of not getting some shiny new points on his licence.
    <G>

Oh, and discovered that the hols have not helped my previously crowed
about waistline. Off to the gym, I reckon.

Genius!! Now, see, I'm going to have to steal this fine idea and put
it on an official request for new bike fitments.

  10. That's total madness. Can't you raise a bit of a stink about it through
your rep? After all, you'd then be expected to go out in all sodding
weathers unprotected and with shit visibility.

They will all be transferred onto bicycles made of recycled coke cans
    eventually anyway

Bangor Northern Ireland, and CarrickFergus, they both have bicycle cops
now. I mean FFS it's insane

here in the City, there are loads of cops on bicycles, wearing the
full on bicycle-courier "chic" look of loads of lycra, swept-back
    helmets and wrap-around orange-lensed sunglasses.

They're making a mistake if they think that riding push-bikes made by
Smith & Wesson make up for looking like wankers.

I saw one chase a bloke on foot across Paternoster Square the other
day, it really was a "Stop, or I'll shout 'stop!' again!" moment.

these are City of London cops, not the Met.
the bikes really are made by Smith & Wesson, which I guess is vaguely
    cool.

Plastic is where it's at for bicycles these days.
I was up riding on Cannock Chase last weekend and saw two pushbike
coppers. Riding very tidily off-road on two full marked but quite
high spec bikes. Apparently bikes are the best method for patrolling
the Chase given it's area and general inaccessibility to motorised
    stuff.

Mail me your address and a current mobile number. I'm up there once a
fortnight on average. Coffee is always welcome.

Well, I'm was being slightly facetious. Carbon fibre:

    http://www.addict-racing.com/./images/stories/sworksepic/sworks01.jpg

It'll eventually get carbon cranks, seatpost, stem, and maybe forks
(but I quite like the ride of the ones that are on it and the ones
with carbon lower legs aren't that much lighter). The frame and bars
    are already carbon.

And hopefully next years version of the frame will have a carbon
    swingarm as well.

Carbon Fibre itself isn't a plastic material in any way. Presumably
    you actually mean graphite-reinforced plastic.

Very old-tech, that. I got my carbon-framed bike about ten years ago.
Nothing that special, mind, just an XT-equipped Cadex, but I still
    like it.
    Nice looking, mind.
