Looks like Alex Hearn made it as far as stage 10. Not too shabby.

This is Meoni we're talking about - he took the Latin temperament to a
whole new level! I'm suprised he managed to stop waving his arms around
for long enough to even ride a bike.
The perils of being 'hot off the press'...
Me too - very surprised. Although I suppose most of the crashes happen
on the soft stuff. Meoni had a bad one yesterday - went off the edge of
a dune & landed on his head, while still sitting on the bike - only
upside down iyswim. If it was a hard surface that would've been a
broken neck or crushed head for sure I would think.

Wonder if it was one of those "impact to the chest causes heart attack" type
    things [1].

Those always scare me a bit as it's very easy to a thump in the chest.

[1] caused by things such as being hit in the chest by a cricket ball etc

IIRC the 'start of stage' weight for long stages is something like
280Kg. That obviously includes a lot of fuel, drinking water, all the
navigation & proximity alarm kit, tools & spares. Makes you realise how
skilled they are, keeping upright in soft sand with that amount of
    weight.

How the heck do they get it upright again when it falls over?

How these huge artifacts are raised to an upright position in the desert has
long been a source of wonderment. Expert opinion differs on whether they use
an ingenious system of levers and pulleys or loads of slaves and a big whip
or the whole thing is done by aliens.

True. Very true. It's not called "Hedgehunter" for nothing.
In standard trim the Z1300 was 297Kg, apparently. So, you're not far
    off.

Quite. Ironic how the enormous weight makes unplanned off-roading
    more likely, tho, innit?
