It doesn't take long to get from one end of the country to another on a
    9R, you know.
    It's like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260376499765

(Two different people suggested a fix for the temperature gauge issue,
so that may well be resolved this evening.)

I certainly want more than it finished at that time around, but I may
have to reconsider the figure I have in mind.

I tend to look at anything over 20K as leggy, although bthat's prolly
    just me.

As I said, it's prolly me.

I expect I'd think differently if I had racked up the majority of the
    miles though.

Throwing in the towel so soon ? :)

I understand the POV that a 30-plus K bike might be less than
desirable, but you'd not blink an eye at the same mileage on a car
    engine.

I know bike engines are highly (or higher) tuned, but that doesn't
stop them and the bike covering 80K miles plus easily.

So where's the prejudice crept in that a 30K bike suddenly becomes an
    old nail/unreliable ?

As someone else has pointed out, every self respecting tourer will
have this on it after 2/3 years.

You _are_ missing the point (although it sounds to me like you may be
just being thick, rather than deliberately awkward). Which is simply
that however little effect mileage has on the actual condition of a
bike, it will always be seen in a negative light when there are ten
low-milers for every high-miler out there.

    What, me ? :)
Oh sure, but then the price would reflect that on the high milers
against the low milers shorely ..

Yes, the desirability of a high-mileage bike is very much lower than a
low-mileage one. If you agree with that what exactly is it you're
    arguing against?

Me, i'm not arguing at all, merely passing comment that the prejudice
against 30K (or 20K miles) plus bikes is unwarranted and unfathomable,
considering that given proper servicing, there's no longevity issues.

Unfathomable? Now you're just contradicting yourself. You actually
agree that a higher mileage bike is less attractive than a low-miler.
Unfathomable means that it can't be understood, or that it flies in
the face of logic, whereas even you clearly do understand the logic
involved, and appear to accept it.

I know what you mean about the wheel paint - mine was like that - pretty
    shoddy and annoying.
I think the main reason it didn't go for a little more is the mileage, which
as has been alluded to in another thread, would be nothing for a Pan, but for
sprotsbikes it's just a bit high compared to others.

But since the price of the high miler is adjusted accordingly, it's a
level playing field. So, attractiveness is irrelevant.

I said I could /understand/ why someone would choose not to look at a
high mileage bike (due to some sort of innate prejudice), but couldn't
fathom the logic (as the bike is no less reliable).
Sure, agreed, but for myself, for a particular model, if I had the
money i'd go for a low miler, but if money was tight, i'd have a high
miler. I wouldn't choose a different model with lower miles.
    huh?

But, of course, they won't be the same price. The 30k bike is going to be
    a lot cheaper.

You want to do 20k on the bike over the next couple of years. You know
the bike'll do 50k easily. Which d'you buy?
