Just got back from Mena,Arkansas Sunday night. Just a heads up, if anyone is
planning to go anytime soon..The Talimena Scenic Byway has alot of loose
gravel if your starting from the Mena side..Most of it is in the center of
the road and on the sides now and it goes for about 10 miles like that..saw
2 bikes wrecked this weekend...One guy broke a leg when he came into a
corner to hot ...he grabbed the brakes to slow down and the bike went right
out from under him when he hit the gravel...looked like the same happened to
another guy on a cruiser. We heard that one hit a bear also..the police were
on the mountain this weekend to slow bikers down ..the werent writing
tickets but they said they were having about 2 motorcycle wrecks a day.

    JFYI,

  2. Thanks for the warning information.
A bunch of us are riding to that area for the CMA of Arkansas Rally, on
    October
23 & 24.......Are they Re surfacing with that stuff, where they put down
heavy Oil then loose gravel and try to pack it down...I hate that stuff,
you are right it ends up in the middle where vehicles strattle. So I try
to ride in one of the Vehicle ruts, but you have to cross those ruts,
when going into the curves, ya know.....and that 35 mile ride from
Queen Wilamena over to Talehena okla, reminds me of Colorado.
It's simply beautiful, I like it , because most of the Ride is on
Ridges, where you can look out yonder on both sides. AND consequenly,
that makes it a little more of a risk....even on good Pavement. bj

Yes its the heavy oil and gravel..The wife and i were up there in June and
thats when they were doing it..Took forever in a day to get all that crap
off my bike when we got back home.. Its all packed down now , just a bunch
of loose stuff left. One would think that they would bring a street sweeper
thru there and clean up that mess seeings how motorcycles are all over that
    road.
